We specialize in providing trauma, sex, body and LGBTQIA+ affirmative psychotherapy to those who feel lost and unsatisfied, and want a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships. We're here to help you slow down, sort through the pressure, and figure out how the hell to take care of yourself and go after the life you want while remaining true to who you are. It doesn’t have to be so hard. We are not distant, blank faced analysts, but instead are responsive and collaborative in our approach. Together, we will untangle the knots created by anxiety, depression, trauma, family, eating, and relationship problems that leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, your body, and your emotions.

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), I collaborate with adult patients to address mental health issues with and without medications. My diverse bedside experience spans oncology, perinatal, hospice, psychiatric, and military veteran populations, allowing me to help optimize your quality of life. That collaboration is grounded in compassion and open-mindedness, which allow me to be a patient-centered team member for you. I recognize that I specialize in one piece of your life, but the rest of the pieces are equally important to reaching our mutual goals for optimal mental health. While I specialize in medication management, I recognize this is only part of the picture, so your care is holistic, collaborative, and built around you. I explore both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic options, making sure you have every piece of information you need to protect your safety and your quality of life along the way. Mind, body, and spirit all factor into how I think about treatment, because you're a whole person walking through this, not a symptom list. That whole-person lens shapes what our work together looks like day to day. Expect an open-minded and patient-centered space where Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques give us a supportive structure to build on. Your lived experience, mental health goals, and physical health goals shape your c are, because your path here is yours. My path to becoming a mental health nurse practitioner began with my own journey through healthcare as a bedside nurse. Along the way, I gained deep and meaningful perspectives helping people through the most vulnerable, life-changing moments, from birth to death and everything in between, moments that can feel terrifying but can be transformed into meaningful ones with the right support and listening. My own mother is a counselor, which gave me a promising view of the changes that can be made when people are given mental health support. Therapy was part of my path too, allowing me to reflect on and review my attachments, creating space for the big, interesting life I always wanted to have. These experiences emphasized to me the importance of processing our experiences, which is now more imperative than ever given how fast life can change. Healing to build resilience in the face of stress means you can be present for your life, your family, and yourself. I love to dance, do yoga, and hike, and always make time to hang out with my cat. Watercolor painting is another favorite of mine, and I'm the first to say yes to a themed party. I'm also a self-proclaimed movie buff — movies, movies, movies! — and I love cheering on my nephew whenever he's playing a sport.

I focus on working with clients to recognize your inherent worthiness at work and within relationships, build trust in your inner wisdom, and integrate mindfulness and spirituality into your daily life. Whether you are coming out of a painful breakup, redefining your career path, navigating how to ask for what you need in partnership, or creating a kinder relationship with yourself, our work together can help you build self-confidence, self-awareness, and stress management techniques. My ideal client is someone who wants to embody their creative side, is curious about spirituality, and longs to step into their greatness. I specialize in mindfulness as a tool to build a more loving relationship with yourself. I bring an integrated head (concrete exercises you can practice between sessions) and heart (deeper understanding of self and how to relate differently with your thoughts and feelings) approach. If you’ve been thinking, “I want to trust myself. I want to trust my intuition/inner knowing. I want to love myself wholeheartedly - on the days I feel powerful and the days I feel small. I want to embody the badass human I was born to be.”- This work is for you.

I am an integrative, trauma-focused, queer therapist dedicated to helping people understand themselves better. I particularly enjoy working with clients who want to be in more authentic, connected relationships with partners and family members, want to better understand how trauma has impacted their life and shed patterns that are no longer useful, or want to parent differently than they were parented. My areas of specialized training include interpersonal trauma and PTSD (sexual assault, childhood abuse, domestic violence), attachment and relationships, perinatal mental health, and infant/early childhood mental health. My approach is informed by an anti-oppressive, feminist, and identity-affirming lens. I hold a perspective that our systems and culture impact our sense of self and how we show up in the world. You know yourself best, and I am here to create a nonjudgmental space for you to bring your full self to learn and grow in the ways that are most important to you. I balance processing to better understand a root cause and change patterns with learning new skills. I view therapy as a collaborative partnership, welcoming feedback and showing up with warmth and authenticity, integrating humor and gentle challenging where appropriate. Reach out for a free consultation to see if working together feels like the right fit!

Along with individual therapy my practice offers a Young Adult Therapy Group. I co-facilitate the young adult group with Marian Salley. We have been running this group for over 3 years, some of the members have been with us since the beginning. Group members are from all over and the group is ONLINE. Think of the members of this group as a party of adventurers, who get to know each other through time spent together, by sharing the emotionally relevant events from their own lives and the interactions that evolve between them within the group. A group of familiars they can take with them thru the various transitions in their lives. Overtime members witness each other’s ups and downs and become known to each other through the experience of sharing their lives, feelings and responding to how they effect one another in the here and now. This is an excellent group for young adults who are looking for a social space to explore emotional experiences, social anxieties, interpersonal relationships and whatever might come in a group of peers. If you are interested go to my website and look under therapy groups.

Feeling "not good enough"? Like no mater how hard you try, you still feel "inadequate"? You don't have to internalize this damaging societal programming. It seems to bombard us from all directions: social media, in-groups at school, family, professors, society at large. Together we'll work to replace this narrative with one of innate worthiness, internal strength, emotional intelligence, enhanced well being, and more fulfilling relationships. In addition to traditional talk therapy, we'll use proven breathing techniques and movement exercises to reduce stress, anxiety, or depression and make room for your true uninhibited self to arise.

A therapy session with me always starts with you. I want you to feel safe and comfortable as you share your situation. While making that first call to a therapist is difficult, most people feel great relief once they do. My main focus is Women in College, processing their challenges and moving toward who they want to become. My goal for you, is to help you find relief quickly. I work with people facing a variety of challenges, including: Anxiety, Life Transitions, Stress, Conflict, Trauma and Childhood Trauma. I offer support, encouragement, and guidance. Therapy is not about living a stress-free life, but rather learning how to navigate that stress with confidence and skill. The work we do is interactive, and I will encourage you to explore options, opportunities and choices. We will work together to help you create a sense of calm, self-assurance and stability as you navigate your life and the issues that have brought you in to meet with me. In my experience, clients I have done EMDR therapy with have had quicker, more effective and longer lasting results than traditional talk therapy. Release the past, calm the present, and learn to trust your Inner Wisdom! Call or text Tenaya at: 720-440-0080 Telehealth (computer sessions) available.
