Hi I am Sophia, LSW (they/she)! I believe life’s challenges can shape us, but they don’t have to define us. I believe people have an innate capacity for growth, healing, and change, even when circumstances make that possibility difficult to see. Therapy can be especially helpful when anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, or other challenges begin to interfere with how you want to live. I view therapy as a space to slow down, make sense of your experiences, develop greater self-understanding, and discover tools that support meaningful and lasting change. I take a collaborative, relational, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach to therapy. I recognize that there is no single path to our growth and change, and that each person brings their own experiences, identities, strengths, and goals into the therapeutic space. Rather than viewing clients as problems that need to be fixed, I work alongside each person to understand what they are experiencing and identify what may help them move forward. I believe therapy works best when clients feel genuinely heard, respected, and empowered to take an active role in their own healing. My therapeutic orientation is integrative, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, expressive arts therapy, relational frameworks, and trauma-informed approaches. These approaches allow me to help my clients explore the connections between their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and past experiences. I specialize in working with adults, adolescents, and couples dealing with complex trauma, neurodivergence, and chronic pain. I am particularly passionate about supporting individuals whose experiences have been shaped by interpersonal or systemic oppression. I understand that responses to difficult experiences often develop as ways of coping or adapting, and therapy can provide an opportunity to understand those patterns while building new ways of responding that feel more supportive and authentic. I have previously had the opportunity to support clients who were navigating bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, psychotic disorders, and sociopolitical concerns. I am motivated by the opportunity to build genuine connections with clients and to create a therapeutic environment where people feel safe enough to be honest, curious, and themselves. I encourage anyone considering therapy to remember that you do not have to have everything figured out before reaching out. Therapy can be the place where we can begin figuring it out together.
Primary Care Psychology Associates (PCPA) is a group practice of doctoral-level clinical psychologists and psychotherapists providing outpatient mental health care and psychological testing for adults, children, and families. What We Do: Psychotherapy: Individual, couples, family, and group talk therapy. Psychological Assessment: Diagnostic testing for ADHD, learning differences, and developmental or emotional concerns. Integrated Medical Collaboration: Co-locating or coordinating care directly with primary care physicians and pediatric groups (such as PediaTrust). Multilingual Care: Offering sessions in English, Spanish, and Bulgarian. What We Do Well: Integrated & Co-Located Care: We excel at embedding behavioral health inside primary medical clinics. This allows for real-time consultation, smoother referrals, and "warm handoffs" where a medical doctor can connect a patient to mental health support immediately. Solution-Focused, Evidence-Based Approach: Our clinicians utilize proven modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with a time-limited focus. We aim for practical skill-building and tangible results within weeks or months rather than open-ended years of analysis. Lifespan & Family Systems Coverage: We manage care seamlessly across all ages (from early childhood pediatric support and parent training to adult and geriatric health psychology) while viewing patients through a broader family or environmental lens. Behavioral Medicine: We handle the psychological overlay of physical illness well—such as helping patients adjust to chronic pain, diabetes, cancer, or cardiac recovery alongside their medical treatments.
As a queer, disabled person, engaging in topics of systems, religion, and relationships is both my lived experience and my passion. As a clinician-in-training, I see the counseling process as a collaborative, client-centered time for exploring patterns, story, and skill-building for your relationships to yourself and the world around you. Whatever patterns, questions, or pain you may bring, therapy is your space to make self-compassionate change happen. I utilize narrative, art, emotional regulation, somatic, executive functioning, and mindfulness approaches to the treatment of Depression/Anxiety, ADHD, LGBTQ+ Issues, and Relationship Concerns (self, others, political environment, earth, etc). In short: my style of therapy is warm, client-centered, trauma-informed, and rooted in curiosity. I am committed to providing therapy that recognize intersections of potential pain and power within myself and others (race/ethnicity, gender/sexuality, religion/spirituality, disability, immigration status, etc). Whatever your pain may be, I look forward to learning more about and from your lived experience as we work together towards healing.
Young adulthood can be both exciting and overwhelming—full of choices, change, and uncertainty. Whether you're graduating from school or navigating college, starting your career, facing relationship challenges, or feeling stuck, anxious, or down, therapy can be a grounding space to sort through it all. I understand the complex stressors that come with early adult life, and I am deeply passionate about supporting adults navigating a range of emotional and psychological challenges, such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, academic concerns, relationship troubles, and grief. My therapeutic style is compassionate and empathetic—I work to create a safe, supportive environment where you feel seen and heard. I also believe in the importance of being direct and gently challenging when needed, to help you grow and move toward meaningful change. I tailor my work to meet your unique goals and with respect to your lived experience.
Cira Center for Behavioral Health (CCBH) is a group practice that has a Team of Psychologists, Social Workers, Professional Counselors, Doctoral Level Therapists, and Post Doctoral Fellows that serve the age and gender spectrum and specialize in Trauma and Women’s Issues/Health.. Therapy is based on research and science, both of which are incredibly important, but at CCBH, we believe that nothing is more important than feeling heard and understood without any judgment. When a strong, supportive relationship is combined with direct feedback and skill-building, people change, and lives improve CCBH specializes in treating trauma. Trauma includes things that you would typically think of as trauma (war veterans, car accidents, rape, physical assault, etc.) as well as difficult childhoods that may have included: physical, sexual, verbal, and/or emotional abuse; divorce/separation; a caretaker who struggled with their own physical/mental illness; a caretaker who suffered from addiction, etc. CCBH also focuses on treating women’s health issues such as perinatal and postpartum depression/anxiety, relationship difficulties, eating disorders and/or disordered eating, body image struggles, etc
My therapeutic style is one of flexibility, active engagement, and a commitment to helping my clients cultivate change in areas of their lives in which they feel stuck. Although people come to therapy for countless reasons, common themes that emerge in my work include relationship concerns, life transitions, identity issues, existential distress, and anxiety and depression. I value helping my clients develop self-compassion, interpersonal awareness, intentionality, and balance in their lives. With an appreciation for the many facets of identity that shape each person’s worldview, I offer a holistic and culturally-informed approach to therapy. Genuine curiosity and cultural humility are guiding forces as I prioritize understanding people within their unique contexts. Prior to private practice, my professional life included experience in university counseling centers and community mental health. As a former professional musician, I continue to maintain a passion for creative endeavors, which I integrate in my therapy work, especially with professional and emerging artists.
I believe that with greater understanding and acceptance of our experiences, we can find a more fulfilling life, enriched by more authentic relationships with ourself and others. Being vulnerable can be a scary prospect, but the willingness to reach out to others for help is a strength. Having experienced the benefits of therapy myself, I want to honor your strength by providing a safe, non-judgmental and affirming space to explore your life's challenges and joys. My approach is creative, collaborative, and guided by your personal goals and values. Person-centered at its core, our work together can integrate aspects of existential therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and narrative and solution-focused therapies according to what is most meaningful to you. My areas of special interest include anxiety and depression, life transitions, grief, and relationships. As a teaching artist and former creative consultant, I have helped adults individually and in groups to clarify and work toward their goals, and I have been privileged to work extensively with LGBTQ+ community organizations. I am happy to answer any questions you may have, so please reach out. I would be honored to walk beside you on your journey.

Main character energy is something that you deserve to give off. Why? Because this is your life and everyone deserves to live the life that they want to live (yes, including you), and I deeply believe this. Since this is something I am passionate about, I will work with you to help make sure that you are able to live life fully and happily. I do this through active listening, patience, open mindedness, kindness, and support. I ensure that you will have a space that is welcoming to be who you are, as you are, safe and judgment free. I know that college is a whole new world, with new fun experiences and stress. I will partner with you to navigate the unique challenges of adjusting to school, friends, independence, and this stage of life. Whether you are experiencing; stress, anxiety, depression, or any unpleasant emotion. You are not alone, and together we will make sure that you are living a life aligned with your goals! Together, we will identify strategies to help you achieve those goals. As the expert of your own experiences, feel free to provide feedback and actively participate in the therapeutic process. It's a team effort, and my goal is to ensure that you get the most out of our sessions, so you can live a life aligned with your goals. Remember, you are not alone, and together we will navigate and overcome any challenges you may face. As an African American woman living in Chicago, I understand the pressure to ‘have it together’ or the need to be emotionally and mentally strong at all times. Life is extreme and when you add in the pressures to conform to the way of the world, life can be unbearable. Growing up on the west side of Chicago, I was able to see the inequities faced by brown and black people. I was able to see the negative impact of the injustices placed on the brown and black people. I was able to see the clear segregation of people, resources, and support and I am able to understand the pain the world has caused. My goal is to remind people of color that they are powerful, that their voices should be loud and clear, and that their presence is necessary. My passion is to be and create a safe space for those who struggle with just being. I enjoy working with the LGBTQIA+ community, the houseless community, and with Black Lives Matter to create a movement for equity, not just equality.

English & Conversational Korean/영어 & 일상 회화 한국어 *More availability coming Sep 2025/2025년 9월부터 상담 가능 시간이 더 많아집니다 English & Conversational Korean/영어 & 일상 회화 한국어 “What does it feel like to take up space?” Space can mean the way you walk into a room, how loud your voice is, or how tall you are. But what about emotional space? In relationships, at work, and in yourself? Maybe you’re the one others rely on, the ‘strong one’. Maybe you tend to hold things to yourself because it feels too vulnerable to share and it might burden someone else. Or you’re navigating systems that have made it hard to feel like you belong in a room. I believe healing happens in spaces where you feel safe enough to feel joy and connection. My role is to offer steady attention and help you reconnect with parts of yourself that you might have had to ignore. I’ve seen how cultural misunderstanding in mental health care can lead to misdiagnosis, minimized experiences, or emotional labor to explain yourself. I aim to reduce that burden, so you don’t have to translate your experience just to be understood. Sessions might include moments of light humor and comfort alongside serious work. What is Art Therapy?/미술치료는 뭔가요? As a practicing visual artist, I have a diverse understanding of art materials and techniques that can be incorporated into our sessions. Art therapy is a form of therapy that utilizes art-making and visual expression to deepen or facilitate the therapeutic process. It’s open to everyone, no artistic experience is necessary and the goal is not the end product, but the creative process. Trained in both art and talk therapy, I’m equipped to guide you through both the creative and verbal aspects of therapy. I practice art therapy as a collaborative process where we explore the meaning of your work together. Instead of reading or interpreting your art, we explore what you felt and thought while creating your piece. Kind of like an artist interview! Whether you’re interested in exploring new materials, want to try an activity catered to a particular challenge, something to fidget with during sessions, or using art as a medium to express yourself, I’m here to facilitate a safe, non judgemental space. In 2020, several experiences pointed me to become an art therapist and counselor alongside my path as an artist. Beginning with the gap in mental health services I witnessed at the time, I saw how many people with marginalized identities were struggling to access affirming, inclusive care. A pivotal moment was when someone I cared about shared the depth of their pain as a way to ask for help, which led to the decision to become a therapist. My own experience of therapy helped me understand how essential representation and cultural understanding are in mental health care. I went on to earn my MA in Art Therapy and Counseling and BFA in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My training includes art therapy, DBT, and narrative therapy, grounded in strengths-based, relational, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive approaches. I also bring LGBTQ+ and disability allyship into my work. In my work as a therapist, I’ve supported clients across both clinical and community settings. This has included leading teen wellness groups through UChicago Medicine, facilitating art therapy and psychosocial rehabilitation programs for adults with chronic mental health and intellectual disability diagnoses, and organizing community art workshops. I’ve also worked with immigrants, refugees, neurodivergent adults, and BIPOC/ALAANA communities. These experiences helped me cultivate a trauma-informed, culturally responsive lens. Speaking Korean lightly is welcome! I am a good fit for clients who are comfortable mixing Korean and English. While I can engage in everyday conversations in Korean, it may be difficult to clearly express everything in in-depth conversations, crisis situations, diagnoses, and treatment planning, as well as other important therapeutic discussions. Ideally, the burden of translation or language adaptation should not fall on the client. If this sounds like a fit for you, feel free to reach out!

If you're exhausted from feeling misunderstood or unable to be your full self, you deserve a therapist who supports, understands, and affirms you. I draw on my lived experience to create an open-minded space where you can feel free to be yourself. Together, we can make sense of your experiences and build a life that feels more authentic, fulfilling, and sustainable. I work with adults and teens (13+) who are seeking support related to Autism, ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, burnout, life transitions, relationship challenges, and more. As a Black, neurodivergent, queer therapist, I am especially passionate about supporting BIPOC, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ clients. My perspective and lived experiences also shape my approach to creating an affirming, individualized space where clients feel seen, understood, and empowered to navigate challenges with greater confidence and self-compassion. With deep respect for the privilege of being invited into clients' lives, I take a collaborative, active approach to therapy, helping clients turn self-awareness into meaningful, lasting change. I draw from mind-body approaches to invite clients to slow down, notice their emotional and physical experiences, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. I also recognize that expanding beyond what feels safe and familiar can feel overwhelming, especially when shame or frustration arise. For this reason, I prioritize connection and trust as the foundation for healing, allowing us to explore what may be keeping you "stuck" with care, compassion, and curiosity.
