Therapists for college students near University of Chicago
During my eight years on staff in college counseling centers, I fully enjoyed helping college and graduate students be their best selves. Sometimes that involved offering concrete information about something specific, such as ADHD, and sometimes that has involved helping a person feel better about themselves or get more satisfaction out of life and out of relationships. I enjoy working together with students who are interested in exploring the obstacles to getting what they want out of life.
I specialize in working with young adults and adults facing anxiety and mood disorders, using proven approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). My therapeutic style is all about collaboration—you are the expert in your life, and I’m here to guide you as we create a personalized plan tailored to your needs and goals.

Hi, I’m Lyndee! I am a Licensed Social Worker and I want to help provide a listening ear, feedback and different therapeutic approaches to help you be the best version of yourself. I believe that everyone has a unique path in life and has the ability to learn new skills that they can use to improve their wellbeing. I help people who long to feel a connection to their authentic self, but feel held back by life’s challenges. I am most passionate about assisting children, adolescents, teenagers & young adults, ages 5-35 who are dealing with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem & life changes. I am also passionate about working with individuals diagnosed with OCD and ASD. In my therapy sessions, I like to meet the client where they are at. Life and challenges look different for everyone. I feel it is important to cater to the individual and their specific goals and needs. Lining out goals and aspirations for therapy is the best way to stay on track and discuss ways to help one’s thought process. I help clients when it comes to problem solving life stressors, developing healthy coping mechanisms, and creating an awareness of their needs and wants in life so that they can live the life they imagined. I know from my own path to wellness that life’s challenges may seem unmanageable at times. However, if an individual is committed to change, they are capable of their full potential and can increase their skills through working on their goals. It is important to remember that we all make mistakes and that no one is perfect. Working through life’s challenges, practicing self-forgiveness and having a growth mindset is something that takes time, commitment and practice. I believe that every individual is capable of change if they are willing to try. I received my bachelors in Psychology from Northeastern Illinois University & my masters in Social Work at Dominican University. My goal is to help clients with life changes/challenges, relationship issues, building self-confidence, changing negative thinking patterns & developing positive coping strategies. You’ve been carrying a lot for a long time—maybe the impact of childhood trauma, complicated relationships, or anxiety and shame that seem to live in your body as much as your thoughts. On the outside you may appear high-functioning and capable, but inside things can feel overwhelming. Many of my clients grew up navigating emotionally unpredictable families, painful relationships, or environments where they learned to minimize their own needs to keep the peace. They want more than coping—they want to feel safer in their body, understand their patterns, and finally experience relief from the past. I integrate EMDR, art therapy, somatic approaches, and insight-oriented talk therapy to support healing in both mind and nervous system. Drawing from parts work and trauma-informed care, we move at a pace that respects your story while helping you reconnect with emotions, build inner safety, and process experiences that feel stuck. Reaching out for therapy takes courage—especially if you’re used to handling everything on your own. Whether you're processing trauma, navigating anxiety or depression, or trying to feel safer in your own body, you deserve a space where all parts of you are welcome. When you're ready, I’m here.

My approach is gentle, grounded, and trauma-informed. I meet you where you are with compassion, curiosity, and no pressure to rush the process. I believe real healing happens when you feel safe, understood, and supported in exploring what's beneath the surface. Together, we will explore the patterns, beliefs, and experiences that are keeping you stuck. We'll work to build insight, process unresolved trauma, and strengthen your connection to yourself. Using EMDR, parts work, and other interventions, we'll move at a pace that feels safe, towards clarity, healing, and lasting change. I specialize in working with people who feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, low self-worth, or trauma, especially those navigating dissociation, generational trauma, or postpartum challenges. Many of my clients are insightful and motivated for change, but need support reconnecting with themselves and healing what's underneath. I became a therapist because I believe in the power of healing through connection. My own inner work, including doing EMDR as a client, showed me how transformative therapy can be. I wanted to offer others the same kind of support: a safe, attuned space to be seen, understood, and truly heal. *Current availability is Mondays at 12pm, Tuesday at 5pm, Wednesdays at 11am, 12pm, and 3pm, and Fridays at 11am.

Great to meet you! Hi, I’m Melissa. I work with curious, thoughtful people who are ready to show up for themselves — even when growth feels uncomfortable. Many of the clients I connect with are navigating big life transitions, like adjusting to college or next steps after college, navigating adulthood, or realizing the old path no longer fits. If you’re someone who’s willing to stay with the process and understands that meaningful change takes work, we’ll likely be a good fit. A bit about my approach to therapy I believe the relationship we build together matters more than any single approach or technique. Feeling safe, understood, and respected is where real change begins. Clients describe me as steady, thoughtful, and encouraging — someone who can sit with you when things feel messy and help you think outside the box when the usual answers don’t work. I focus on everyday, “garden-variety” struggles that still have a big impact on quality of life, especially during periods of transition. What you can expect from our first session Our first session is a chance to slow down, get to know each other, and talk about what brought you in and where you hope to go. We’ll explore what’s working, what feels stuck, and what kind of support actually feels helpful to you. Over time, many clients walk away with more clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense that they can create a path forward — even if it looks different than they originally imagined. Growth isn’t always easy, but you don’t have to do it alone.
