Are you seeking to understand yourself better? Are you looking to make sense of your relationship dynamics? Do you wish things were better, but you don't know how to get there? You CAN feel empowered by an expanding of your understanding, gathering insight, and educating the choices you make in how you decide to live your life. I work with couples, and adults to help make sense of obstacles, understand how relationship histories effect life today, and become more comfortable with themselves. This is done in an atmosphere where you are accepted for who you are. We can discuss your goals. Many people feel uncomfortable considering therapy as an option for themselves. It can be difficult asking for help, believing that asking for help means we are inadequate in some way. In a do-it-yourself culture, reaching out to others can cause us to feel like we are less than, but trying to meet our own needs is actually a strength. My clients often report that they have gained more insight into their lives, that they feel more at home within themselves and more capable of handling life's difficulties as they inevitably arise. Couples leave my office feeling like they understand themselves and their partner more clearly, and report greater relationship satisfaction.

I’m Megan, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 12 years experience working in individual and group settings. College is a challenging time mentally, emotionally, and logistically—there’s a lot to learn about yourself and the world around you! Therapy is a unique space to explore and organize your internal emotional experiences, feel more satisfied in your interpersonal relationships, better manage and tolerate a broad range of emotions, and experience new ways of relating more meaningfully to yourself and others. Through carefully exploring your emotional and relational experiences, both past and present, you may develop a deeper sense of self-understanding, wholeness, and a renewed capacity for joy and purpose. I work from a primarily relational and psychodynamic orientation, though I am flexible in engaging with the specific needs of each client. My work is informed by a commitment to social justice and an attunement to the many social realities that influence trauma and distress. I seek to honor your multiple intersecting identities and actively explore the interaction of these with my own and within the larger culture. My goal is for clients to experience a deeper sense of safety and healing. I have 12 years of expertise working with adults experiencing trauma, anxiety and depression, adjustment and life transition issues, identity concerns, relational conflicts, spiritual and/or religious issues, and grief and loss. In addition to working with both MA- and CA-based clients in my private practice, I work as a psychologist at UCLA. Prior to this, I completed my postdoc fellowship at Boston College University Counseling Services and worked as a staff psychologist there for 3 additional years, so I thoroughly enjoy working with BC students. I look forward to connecting with you!

A therapist is to honor and respect your individuality while creating a calm and safe space for you to express yourself openly and freely with no judgment. Your experience is unique, and I will treat it as such while intently listening to your story. You are the driver and expert of your own experiences, and the goal is to collaboratively approach your story with intentionality, sort through your challenges, explore strategies that best serve you, and prioritize your well-being.

I work with LGBTQIA+ folks, neurodivergence, people with trauma histories, depression, anxiety, grief, and difficult family dynamics in individual therapy. I am available virtually and accept many health insurance plans. I always reply to every inquiry and offer free consultations to see if we are a good match and to answer any questions you may have. My style is relational, somatically focused, and rooted in liberation psychology. We might talk about how you are feeling, situations that you've felt that way before, and start to identify patterns of beliefs, reactions, coping strategies. I aim to understand you inside of your context and approach what's going on with you compassionately. If this sounds like something that might be supportive, don't hesitate to reach out.

Chronic stress is not a requirement for success at work, at school or in relationships. If you are feeling depressed, anxious, or isolated, and/or coping with unhealthy habits, regaining balance is possible. Even the healthiest individuals can struggle to maintain physical, mental, and emotional balance in our high-tech, high-stress culture. In a judgment-free and solution-focused environment, we will work together to help you find more life satisfaction and confidence. I use only evidence-based, reliable practices in a safe, comfortable environment to help you feel better about your life direction.

Many people seek out psychotherapy to decrease unwanted experiences; to feel less depressed, feel less anxious, etc. While I work with clients to address these concerns, I also help to identify what we can increase together. What are your values? How can we work together to add more to your life consistent with those values? As a solo practitioner, I deliberately maintain a small client caseload to ensure I am fully able to attend to my clients’ needs. My areas of expertise include treatment of depression, anxiety, and interpersonal difficulties in adults. As a university professor, I genuinely enjoy working with college students. I believe in a collaborative approach to psychotherapy. I place a high premium on the therapeutic relationship, and work to tailor my interventions to my clients’ goals and preferences. I tend to use a relational style to help identify interpersonal patterns and supplement this approach with behavioral strategies in the service of your values. I recognize that your time and money are valuable, and I believe in regular and open communication about what is and is not working in psychotherapy. I regularly incorporate routine outcomes measures in therapy to ensure that our work together is on track with your goals and to change our approach together if it is not.

Do you find yourself stuck or pained in relationships - with yourself, others, the world, or your past? The struggle may show up as loneliness, emptiness, maladaptive interpersonal patterns, or as symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, disordered eating etc. I strive to create trust in a nonjudgmental and authentic atmosphere, from where we work together to understand and help resolve your struggles. My style in session is warm, collaborative, and actively engaged. I'm not a passive listener who nods along silently—I'm present with you, noticing what's happening in the room, gently drawing attention to patterns, emotions, and moments that matter, including the ones you might be inclined to gloss over. Sometimes our work is more experiential—slowing down to sit with what's emerging rather than rushing past it. Other times it's more practical and action-oriented—working on concrete strategies, trying new behaviors, or building skills you can use between sessions. I blend insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral, and emotion-focused approaches in individualized ways that fit who you are and what you're working through. I bring extensive experience across college counseling centers and mental health clinics, having most recently served as a staff psychologist at Harvard University Health Services, and previously at Case Western Reserve University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Northwestern University (where I completed my postdoctoral fellowship). I am now in full-time private practice. I'm also the Chinese translator of Irvin Yalom's Existential Psychotherapy and The Gift of Therapy, and serve on the Expert Committee at Jiandanxinli (简单心理), the largest therapist platform in China.
