Therapists for college students near 27705
The clients I work best with are often the ones who appear “put together” on the outside but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected on the inside. They’re typically reliable, high-functioning and used to being the person others depend on but privately, they may be dealing with anxiety, burnout, overthinking, or a sense that they’ve lost themselves in their roles. Many of my clients struggle with people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, or feeling responsible for others’ emotions. Some are navigating major life transitions like relationship changes, co-parenting, or figuring out their next steps in school or career. Others may not have a clear “reason” for therapy but know something feels off and want more clarity, balance, or a stronger sense of self. I work well with folks who are open to looking a little deeper, at patterns in relationships, how past experiences may still be showing up, and how stress or emotions live in the body. You don’t have to have it all figured out. If you’re willing to be curious about yourself and want practical tools alongside deeper understanding, this space can be a good fit.
In therapy, I work collaboratively with my clients to explore themselves and move towards the life they want and deserve. I might be a good therapist fit for you if. . . You are LGBTQ and want to process your identity in therapy and/or if you are seeking therapy for other parts of you in a safe, affirming environment You are seeking care and support around body image or your relationship with food, size, desirability, etc You are looking for space to process the ways structural oppression and internalized isms are impacting your relationships, access, etc You are wanting to get to know yourself, understand how your past has shaped you and process how that impacts your life now You are working on having boundaries, knowing your capacities and building a life that works for all parts of you You are seeking a therapeutic environment that is supportive, direct, genuine and warm. I specialize in working with queer and trans folks and people with complex relationships with food and body image. I also work with folks who are experiencing anxiety, depression, burnout, career and relationship uncertainty, caregiver fatigue and chronic stress. I am also polyam, kink and sex worker positive. I deeply believe every individual has the right to determine for themselves who they are, what they need and what type of life they want to live. I work collaboratively with my clients to build understanding of self and move towards their goals.

As a queer black woman, my goal is to provide space for those like me and others who have felt silenced and marginalized a majority of their lives. I have a passion for working with women of color and LGBTQIA+ identifying folks. If you find yourself experiencing things like depression and anxiety, or low self-esteem/self-concept, I may be a good fit for you. I have past experience working with clients on things like life adjustments (moving, end of a relationship, career change, etc.), grief and loss, day-to-day stressors, and relationship concerns - romantic, platonic, familial, and professional.

I enjoy working with neurodivergent children, teens, adults, and families, including those with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and other disabilities. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or struggling with emotional regulation, relationships, school, or daily life demands. Together, we create a neuroaffirming space where clients can better understand themselves, build on their strengths, develop practical coping skills, and find approaches that honor the way their brains naturally work. As an art therapist and former elementary school art teacher, I offer a creative, person-centered approach tailored to each client's needs. I incorporate art therapy, sandtray therapy, play therapy, DBT, CBT, and solution-focused techniques to support emotional growth, self-understanding, and meaningful change. I believe healing happens when people are given space to show up as they are. You don't need artistic experience, perfect words, or everything figured out to begin therapy. If you're looking for a compassionate, collaborative space to explore challenges and strengths, I'd be honored to support you.

I understand that reaching out for support is a big step, often taken while overwhelmed by difficult emotions. Many of my clients come to me feeling exhausted, whether it manifests as persistent worry, disconnection from loved ones, or low self-esteem. You might feel stuck, sensing that something’s off, even if you can't pinpoint exactly what it is. These feelings are common, and you are not alone. I often work with clients processing past trauma, seeking greater self-awareness, and coping with ongoing stress. My goal is to meet you where you are and support you in forging deeper connections with yourself, others, and the world. I see therapy as a partnership based on curiosity and compassion, where no topic is off-limits, and every part of your story is welcome, including the parts that feel heavy or hidden. My style is attentive, honest, and often includes humor. Together, we can uncover your strengths, build resilience, and develop tools to help you regain control over your life! As a compassionate and culturally sensitive psychologist, I strive to offer a nonjudgmental and safe space to explore your unique experiences as well as to promote the self-growth and healing all human beings (yes, you!) are worthy of. You’re used to keeping it together, even when it’s hard. Maybe you're the overthinker, the perfectionist, the one who’s always there for everyone else. But lately, it’s been a lot: anxiety, life changes, big questions about who you are and where you’re headed. Therapy can be a place to slow down, feel understood, and find tools that actually help. I work with teens and young adults navigating anxiety, depression, identity, and life transitions. My style is warm, supportive, and grounded in trauma-informed CBT. Together, we’ll get curious about what’s going on beneath the surface and build skills to help you move forward. When you are ready to talk, call Gracefully Balanced Counseling at our office number or shoot me an email. We can schedule your free 15 minute consultation, where you can learn more about my approach and if we would make a good fit!
Currently accepting new clients for in person and telehealth appointments. Hello and thanks for checking out more about me! Lets learn how we can work together. No matter where you are at in a life journey things can become difficult. In our work, we will integrate your knowledge, insight and expertise of your life with my perspective, to challenge - in a safe way - the thinking and automatic thoughts that so quickly come to your mind when faced with situations. The great thing is, those thoughts can be modified, but much like a muscle, it requires a consistent effort, and a willingness to try new approaches - it may be a little tough in the beginning. We will focus and learn to: Identify thinking patterns – developing an awareness of how you think about yourself, circumstances and outcomes and gain insight of where you may be critical and the unhelpful ways of how you relate to who you are Take the time to reflect – while hard to do in the busyness of life, looking inward helps build awareness of emotions and to explore what’s going on. Clarity in thinking and discovery of what really matters will result in those moments Become curious – life is a journey full of twists and turns; embrace what is presented and yet be mindful of the present moment Add self-care and compassion into your life – let’s work on increasing your ability for self-kindness and the process of acceptance Develop a growth mindset – no matter where you are emotionally, physically, or how old or young you are, we can expand in areas of life and improve in ways of relating and achieving what is possible or even ….what may seem impossible If this sounds and feels interesting to you, let’s begin with a complimentary 15-minute telephone conversation to determine how we can work together and the next steps.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). My clinical experience encompasses working at multiple university counseling centers. There, I have supported students and postdocs of various ages (young adults to those in middle adulthood) through therapy. Whether you are navigating challenging life adjustments, the transition to college, anxiety, relationship concerns, concerns related to racial identity, grief, academic or career stress, or other concerns, there is hope for healing and growth. When it comes to therapy, I seek to empower clients to recognize their capabilities and move toward beneficial change. Through warmth, encouragement, and compassion, I aim to build a collaborative relationship with clients and create a safe, nonjudgmental space. I seek to meet each client's individual needs, believing there is no "one-size-fits-all” approach to treatment. To do this, I draw techniques from different modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindful self-compassion (MSC), interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). If you are ready to take the next step and see if we are a good fit, I invite you to reach out.

As you prepare to address problem areas in your life, finding the right person to work with to help and support you as you move forward toward your goals, is the first step. My therapy practice focuses primarily on children, families and young adults. I believe that better communication and understanding can be key in building better relationships. Typical sessions involve the basics of support, and building on the existing strengths of a person as well as developing better techniques in managing difficult emotional problems. Psychoeducation, which involves helping to understand the mental health symptoms that are being presented and learning how to manage them, as well as skills to build deficits with anger control, social interactions and stress relief, are also taught. Working together on ways to decrease difficult symptoms, such as clients providing better self care skills, building strong coping skills and having improved perspectives is essential to a healthier well being. My role as your therapist is that through the supportive and close therapeutic relationship, you will gain insight and motivation to work toward change. I am currently licensed in NC, GA and am a Certified Telehealth Practitioner in Florida. I am only able to see clients virtually in FL and NC.
