If you are reading this then I invite you to take a moment to appreciate what you have done. Despite the pain you are in, you have taken an important step toward change. Those whom I work with all have one thing in common—pain. Regardless of its form, nervousness, sadness, substance misuse, difficult thoughts, and/or traumatic memories, attempting to cope with this pain has led to more suffering. There now exists a gap between the life they are living and the one they desire. Life has become about avoiding, numbing, or distracting the pain away. Does this sound like you? If so, know this—you’re not broken, you’re stuck. My approach to stuckness involves working together to explore new methods for interacting with pain, ones that don’t result in more suffering. We will work to cultivate clarity around where you have been and where you’d like to go; giving you a deeper understanding of how to create a rich and meaningful life despite the pain. My counseling draws from a foundation of empathy, positive regard, and congruence. I incorporate ACT, CBT, and CPT into my work. Utilizing various treatment modalities allows me to tailor my approach to meet your unique needs. Add in a healthy dose of metaphors, humor, and hands-on practice to create an experience that is informative and transformational.

I utilize evidence-based practices (EBP) to ensure the most effective and beneficial outcomes for clients. EBP involves integrating best research evidence with clinical expertise and client values to make informed decisions about treatment plans. For example, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety is an evidence-based approach, as research supports its effectiveness in alleviating anxiety symptom. I have an extensive history treating individuals with anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc working in the private sector, VA, state facilities and other government agencies .

Hi, my name is Richard Howard and I am one of the licensed counselors here at Wright's Care Counseling Services. Feel free to check it out and learn more about our practice. We provide in-office and telehealth (phone or zoom) counseling sessions and have offices in Greensboro, Asheboro, and Winston-Salem. Are you struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, or your sense of identity? Are you at a point where something has to change but you just don’t know where to start? My goal is to help you find that starting point. I understand that many of us struggle with getting by on a day to day basis. High levels of stress can impact our mood, interactions with those close to us, even our performance at work or school. Allow me to aid you in managing the stress that you experience. I work from a person-centered and trauma-informed approach, providing you a safe space to enter the therapy setting as you are and work toward your goals. I will help you in increasing your self-understanding, communicating your needs, identifying your strengths, and working through the roadblocks of life. Ready to take the first step? I know change may not be easy, but I believe we all have it in us to become the best version of ourselves. Versions that are better able to handle the everyday stressors of life. I will meet you where you are, to help you become who you want to be. I’m happy to support you along your journey.

Are you a young adult struggling to manage everything going on in your life? Do you feel like you're just not able to say no to people? Are you stuck in relationships and cycles that don't serve you anymore? Have you had painful experiences in your past that seem to keep popping up and affecting you currently? I was a young adult struggling with the same issues until I found a trusted therapist who saved my life. You shouldn't have to feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders and you're struggling to stand. They say "You can't pour from an empty cup" - let's figure out how to replenish yours first. Together, we'll dig deep to work through the things that feel dark. I'll support you in discovering meaningful coping skills, exploring the values that are important to you, and understanding how to hold boundaries that help keep you safe. You'll learn to feel good about your decisions and confidently say no to what no longer serves you or lifts you up. Stop living within other people's comfort zones. It's time to take off the mask allow space for the whole, true "you" to arise. Reach out to me today for a free phone or video consultation to learn how you can take back control of your life and live more authentically to the person you want to be, not who others expect you to be.

Have you found yourself struggling with feeling overwhelmed way more than you would like to admit? Has your anxiety washed over you with no rhyme or reason, only to leave you feeling exhausted and confused? Transitioning back to "normal life" and having adult responsibilities is hard enough, but when you add anxiety to the mix--things tend to get interesting (and probably not in the way you would like). My perspective in therapy is that everyone has their own “coping skills toolbox” and it is my job to help you polish the rusty tools that you haven’t used in a while and make room for new and improved tools that are just for you. I will be your accountability partner by supporting and challenging you when needed. While sometimes our lives can feel out of control, many times all we need is a little boost from an outside person to help us move through overwhelming situations. I believe the most important part of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client, so please reach out for a free 15 minute consultation to see if we would be a good fit!
