Therapists for college students near 10003
Hey there! College is a whole other world—fun, stressful, overwhelming, and everything in between. Maybe you’re juggling deadlines, relationships, family pressure, or just trying to figure out who the heck you are and what you actually want. If anxiety, burnout, or self-doubt are getting in the way of your happiness (or your grades), you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. I help college students who feel stuck, anxious, or drained by people-pleasing and perfectionism. Together, we’ll work through the stress, heal old wounds, and build confidence so you can actually enjoy your life—not just push through it. My approach is supportive, down-to-earth, and tailored to you. Whether you need a space to vent, tools to handle stress, or a deeper dive into what’s holding you back, I’m here to help. If you’re ready to feel more in control of your life, let’s chat.

Men need help too. Are you struggling with big transitions in your life? Having difficulty calming intense emotions or just struggling to navigate the day to day? Life can be filled with challenges and disappointments that impact our state of mind, (our brain?), and our capacity to manage everyday tasks. If this is you, I would love to help you learn ways to understand and cope with these big and challenging moments. Therapy is a healing process and together we can process emotions, create small, realistic changes, and help you become more confident in everyday life. My aim is to create a comfortable and accepting environment, and a space for you to feel supported. Throughout this process we will also explore how our brain and mind are impacted by significant events in our lives. This approach will allow us to redefine not only how you view yourself but even the world around you! With the incorporation of mindfulness, meditation, and a person-centered approach we can take this journey together. Please feel free to contact me to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation or to answer any questions. You are never alone on this journey. I look forward to hearing from you.
Hello! I am currently ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS in RI, MA, and CT! It’s important to have a connection with someone who can help you work through difficult emotions. It is both normal for us humans to get stuck, scared, or in our own way and also to need space and support to understand the cause of our struggles, face our fears, make changes, and grow. My goal as a therapist is to use our combined wisdom (your knowledge of yourself and your life, my experience and expertise), and sometimes that of my therapy dog Bella, to explore your concerns, increase awareness, insight, and self-compassion, identify options for change, and understand and respect what you choose to do as a result of this process. I have over 20 years experience as a psychotherapist and specifically working with university students (and staff), international persons, and musicians/performers.
Historically, I have worked with children and adults processing trauma, and supported those diagnosed with ADHD, Anxiety, and Depression. However, in recent years I have begun to narrow my focus on supporting University students. At this time in history I feel supporting the mental health of this group is of the utmost importance as they face existential and emotional challenges unique to the generations that have come before. Using a combination of creative interventions and talk therapy techniques, I offer a unique and collaborative therapeutic experience to support individuals through the transitional space of University life and provide a safe and affirming space for them to reflect on who they are and who they want to be in this world.
Hello! Intrusive and scary thoughts, over-analyzing, mental reviewing of events, repetitive behaviors, and skin-picking. These are all symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety is natural, but when severe, it can be hard to cope with — often getting in the way of things we want in our lives! My passion is to help others begin the journey of working through the anxiety, toward the life they want to have. I make use of a variety of therapeutic modalities, including ERP, ComB, ACT, and I-CBT, but I ultimately hope treatment will be a collaborative process assisting you in identifying steps to reach your goals. I strive to create a safe space in which you feel comfortable to discuss your thoughts and fears. Given that I have my own lived experience with OCD, I feel I can provide a deeper level of understanding for those living with anxiety and OCD. I, too, have been there. I understand how scary and difficult it can be. We can take that first step together.
Often in therapy we work to bring what's unconscious into consciousness, which can create more agency, freedom, and choice. As both a psychotherapist and writer, I believe in the power of finding connections between that which is seemingly disconnected in order to uncover a deeper understanding of oneself and the way one relates to others and the world. I specialize in treating trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, interpersonal relational difficulties, and life transitions. Using a psychodynamic framework and relational lens, my work is informed by both psychoanalytic theories and Buddhist psychology. I often draw from Internal Family Systems framework and specialize in psychedelic integration psychotherapy. I received my psychotherapeutic education from New York University, The National Institute for the Psychotherapies, and Nalanda Institute’s Contemplative Psychotherapy Program. I hold an MSW from NYU, an MFA from The New School, and a BA from Boston College. For more info: alipowerpsychotherapy.com.
Sometimes therapy feels like it’s going nowhere, as if you’re just getting a listening ear, without actually learning how to get better. If you’d like to get real tools for handling life’s challenges, and you’re ready to put in the work, I can help. Maybe you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, sleep troubles, or dating and relationship issues. Whatever you're facing, you’re probably putting a lot of pressure on yourself to figure things out. Working with me will challenge you to change the way you think and make life more enjoyable. When we meet, we’ll spend some time getting to know each other and coming up with the most appropriate plan of attack. You’ll let me know what feels most important to work on first. Together we’ll identify where you want to go and what’s been getting in your way. With support and practice, you’ll master the skills you need to get there ... and to help yourself feel better for the rest of your life. Before entering mental health counseling, I spent 25 years as a journalist and audio producer, practicing deep curiosity about people—and how to dismantle the often painful stories we tell ourselves. I'm also a stepmom to three amazing young adults. If you value a warm, down-to-earth attitude combined with clinical know-how (and humor), we may be a fit. I love supporting college students and have been doing so for the past 15 years. I spent much of that time providing therapy in New York City, before returning to my home town of Fairfield, CT to continue my practice. In addition to in person appointments, I continue to provide telehealth sessions for any students located in CT or NY. I also have experience with this age group in schools, medical and psychiatric hospital settings and in the classroom while teaching at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. I truly enjoy working with my clients and draw upon my own experience and their inherent strengths to achieve change in a welcoming and nonjudgmental environment.
