Therapists for college students near 10003
Since my first counseling experience at the University at Buffalo's Counseling Center, I have found working with college students especially rewarding. I have dedicated my career to understanding and treating emotional health. I have always been impressed with my clients’ abilities to address and overcome life’s challenges, often using skills they didn’t even know they had. It is so gratifying to see people become the best versions of themselves. A specific area of interest is helping those to improve their interpersonal relationships, whether they be with family, coworkers, or others. I want our sessions to be a supportive and safe place where you can be your genuine self without fear of judgement as you process, learn, and work through life’s challenges. I provide evidenced-based individual therapy services grounded in cognitive behavioral, person-centered, and narrative therapy approaches, as well as motivational interviewing.
I've specialized in helping college students through tough times for almost two decades. Through a warm, down-to-earth, collaborative approach I'll partner with you to achieve your goals for change and find peace with the way life is. By using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with a focus on mindfulness and your unique strengths, I can help you understand and change unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviors. My specialty areas include managing anxiety, coping with stress around relationships, family, work, life and world transitions, improving self esteem and living with ADHD. Through our work you'll develop a better awareness of who you are, what you want and how to get it. I'll help you discover and feel confident in yourself, and figure out how to live the life you desire. Together we'll identify problem areas or places where you feel stuck and find new ways of responding to create more enjoyable, fulfilling outcomes. Change is always possible, even when problems feel insurmountable. Making an appointment for therapy is often a brave first step in the healing and growth process. I offer a free, initial phone consultation to see if we'd be a good fit. Any time you're are ready to chat, I'd love to hear from you.
I provide quality therapy over video, when and where it’s convenient for you. I know that there are many real-life barriers to getting the help you deserve and am committed to helping you create change and feel better. I work primarily with college students as they transition to college life, navigate dating relationships and peer relationships.
Are you zoning out on this page right now hoping the answers to your problems will magically materialize? Scrolling on here in the late hours of the evening because your mind just won’t stop racing? (Caught ya, but you’ve come to the right place.) You’ve been dealing with a lot that life has been throwing at you lately and it’s hard to just keep up, let alone feel like yourself. You want to step into your life and start living, and I mean really living. You wish you could stop feeling controlled by those unhelpful, nagging thoughts and be present with your loved ones. You want to find balance in all the things that matter to you. And you know what? You deserve it after all you’ve been through. I specialize in helping individuals get back in touch with their true selves and I’m trained in evidence-based practices (EMDR!) to help you get where you want to be. I work with all that are misunderstood. While my specialty is working with autistics and ADHD, due to misdiagnoses in females, adopted youth, LGTBQIA2S+, and BIPOC, I welcome all so that we can discover an affirmative proper assessment for answers and treatment. I specialize in helping children learn practical methods for managing difficult emotions and difficult situations at school as well as adults in the workplace. I help parents learn research-based parenting that is emotionally safe and improves crisis stabilization at home and school, including throughout the circle of life. I include parents in the process of discovering techniques that actually help children, including improving family function and relationships. In addition, I also support active duty and retired veterans and their families, as well as civilian contractors with PTSD and the difficulties navigating a military lifestyle, as well as transitioning back into a civilian lifestyle. In addition, I also specialize in substance use treatment and parent/family support counseling. I also provide support for those that participate with NY’s self-direction and provide complimentary billing to the participant’s FI without the hassle of self-pay.

College life can be exciting and fulfilling, but also may be daunting and overwhelming at times. Maintaining grades in school, navigating relationships and exploring new experiences may be a lot to do all on your own. My passion lies in helping people adjust to life transitions, and in healing from trauma. Learning what you bring to relationships due to your own upbringing and earlier experiences will help you to be more intentional in your current interactions. I also care about helping people heal what perpetuates their substance use, while working to gain coping skills, and plan for a life of recovery.

Immediate Openings Via Telehealth. We tend to seek therapy when the messages we received in the past no longer align with who we were or who we want to be. Change can occur when folks feel validated, recognize their strengths and gifts, and learn strategies to navigate life’s challenges. I work with a variety of folks and have expertise connected with LGBTQI+, Disability, complex trauma, and issues impacting youths and adults, couples counseling, and individual counseling. As a therapist, I strive to create a warm and engaging environment to identify and explore your concerns, so we can work towards your goals. My approach is compassionate, down to earth, funny (at least I think so), and individualized to your needs. You can expect freedom from judgement and a safer space to explore what is showing up in your life. I'm trained in several evidence-based approaches and I am results oriented. I enjoy working with individuals and couples. Let's have an initial phone conversation to determine if we click. I am fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), with over a decade of experience connected to sign language interpreting. I am Licensed in Rhode Island and New York.
Natalia is the Associate Director of the Counseling Service at Vassar College, where she counsels students from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. In addition, at Vassar, she trains the next generation of psychotherapists as a senior supervisor to MSW students and Post-Doctoral Candidates. Natalia was born and raised in South America, and from a young age, she was interested in how culture, family, and the environment shape who we are and who we want to become. Her quest to understand cultures, traditions, and systems led her to learn languages, live, study, and grow on three continents. Thus, Natalia approaches her psychotherapeutic from a multicultural lens, helping you make sense of what brought you to this moment as a base to understand where you want to go and support you as you get there. Natalia trained as a psychotherapist in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and received her Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania where she found her passion for working with college students as a trainee at the Counseling and Psychological Services of UPENN. Natalia received the 2015 Clinical Excellence Award from the Pennsylvania Society for Clinical Social Work and is an American Psychological Association Division 39 Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology Multicultural Concerns Scholar. She is also engaged in post-graduate education training at the William Alanson White Institute in NYC for the treatment of people with eating disorders.
We conduct executive functioning coaching to neurodiverse college students or those struggling with organization, time management, coursework, and other aspects of college life. I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy in a multicultural context. I provide a compassionately insightful and culturally-sensitive space that allows you to attune to your inner wisdom, leading to contentment in personal and professional pursuits. Psychodynamic orientation is based on an insight-oriented approach of becoming aware of unconscious patterns rooted in our past that significantly impact current functioning in relationships, work, and recreation. I incorporate mindfulness meditation or relaxation techniques if the client prefers. My practice is exclusively telehealth-based, and research has shown telehealth to be very useful for treatment. I offer psychotherapy via a video HIPAA-compliant platform that protects your privacy and bars unauthorized access. Telehealth provides convenience for both the provider and client without compromising the quality of treatment. It is exciting to witness the ease of mental health access that telehealth provides. Now, you don't have to limit your therapist search to your local area but can instead extend it all over the state! I hold these qualifications: I have a doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford, and the program is approved by American Psychological Association (APA). I completed an internship in clinical psychology, approved by the APA. I completed a formal Post-Doctoral Fellowship in college counseling. I am licensed as a Psychologist in New York state. I am so glad you're here. You just took the hardest step, so take a second for a self-hug. I believe therapy is one of the most rewarding things you can offer yourself, so congratulations. We are all on our own journey, have our own individual needs, and a history that makes us who we are. In turn, I work with every person, meet them where they are at, support & guide them, through a treatment plan we build together, to help them with their day to day challenges, and long term goals. Therapy is a beautiful tool that, if used correctly, can be life changing. I enjoy nothing more than guiding people in finding their way & themselves. I pull much of my practice from life experiences. I am an honest, authentic New Yorker who is empathetic, yet direct. For decades I have worked with young adults (high school into college) navigating the intricacies of relationships, self love, identity searching and beyond. Life can be hard. We can be even harder on ourselves. It is easy to get overwhelmed, lost, confused - but we do not need to be on this journey alone. I'm a therapist, or a friend - whatever you need in the moment. Some people are anxious about entering therapy, but my approach is: what a gift to have someone in your corner who is simply there to support you.
