Therapy is most effective when it is collaborative, grounded in reality, and focused on meaningful progress. I bring an integrative, strengths-based, and goal-oriented approach to our work together. Whether you are navigating a specific life transition, managing chronic stress, or working through deeper emotional hurdles, my aim is to help you uncover what is working, identify what needs to change, and build a practical roadmap to get there. My Approach Strengths-Based & Collaborative: We will focus heavily on identifying and leveraging your natural strengths and resiliencies—finding the things you are already good at and using them as a foundation for growth. Solution-Focused & Goal-Oriented: We work together to figure out what needs to change, why those changes matter to you, and how to make them happen in a sustainable way. Flexible & Balanced: Therapy should meet you where you are. I am comfortable giving you the time and space needed to develop insight, motivation, and clear goals. At the same time, I am not afraid to gently encourage change, support healthy risk-taking, and help hold you accountable to your own aspirations. Contextual & Systemic: Problems do not occur in a vacuum. Your experiences are shaped by your relationships, your environment, and society at large—especially where systemic oppression or social barriers are present. Background & Experience With over two decades of clinical experience across a wide array of backgrounds and challenges, I have spent my career supporting individuals through profound adversity. Crisis & Complex Care: Extensive background working with individuals experiencing extreme poverty, homelessness, and severe mental health conditions. Veterans Care: Currently serving as a Suicide Prevention Coordinator, providing specialized, compassionate care to Veterans at risk. Core Beliefs: I firmly believe that people can change and grow, and that therapy can and should be time-limited. You do not have to carry your challenges alone, and healing happens best when we look at the whole person within their world.
I am a dedicated Marriage and Family Therapist committed to supporting individuals, couples, and families in navigating the complexities of relationships. My initial motivation for pursuing Marriage & Family Therapy was my desire to support and uplift families, particularly in areas where seeking mental health services is still stigmatized. I have experience working with sexual, physical, emotional, racial, and intergenerational trauma as a trauma therapist. I've also had training in Gottman therapy, so I can address your concerns in couples therapy. I am bilingual providing therapy in English as well as Spanish. My practice, which is based on a systems framework, places a strong emphasis on providing a secure and accepting environment where clients can discuss issues, develop relationships, and explore obstacles. I am a strong proponent of collaborative therapy, where clients and I work together to develop objectives and tactics that will lead to positive change. Whether it's dealing with communication problems, handling life changes, or handling interpersonal disputes, my mission is to enable people and families to create happier, healthier relationships. I treat each client's individual background and values with sensitivity and respect in my therapy, having a great appreciation for diversity and cultural nuances.
Welcome. I'm Andrea Jackson, LICSW, LCSW, PMH-C, a virtual therapist supporting college students and young adults across New York, Washington, DC, Virginia, Vermont, and Utah. The college years and early stages of adulthood can be exciting, but they can also bring stress, anxiety, self-doubt, loneliness, relationship challenges, academic pressure, and uncertainty about the future. You may feel overwhelmed by expectations, struggle with perfectionism, or find yourself questioning who you are and where you're headed. Therapy can provide a space to slow down, reflect, and develop tools to navigate these challenges with greater confidence. My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs. Together, we'll explore what is contributing to your distress, build practical coping strategies, strengthen self-awareness, and identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck. I draw from evidence-based approaches to help clients manage anxiety, process difficult experiences, and create meaningful, lasting change. As a Black woman therapist and first-generation college graduate, I understand some of the unique challenges that can arise when balancing academic goals, family expectations, cultural identity, and personal growth. I strive to provide culturally responsive, affirming care where you feel respected, supported, and able to show up as your authentic self. Whether you're adjusting to college, preparing for graduation, navigating a career transition, managing a difficult relationship, coping with grief, or simply trying to find your footing, you don't have to figure it all out alone. I would be honored to support you in building a life that feels more balanced, connected, and aligned with your values.

Are you experiencing stress in your relationships and you want to build healthier ones? Maybe you find saying “no” to be impossible, you don’t feel heard by others, or you have a difficult time managing your emotions on top of typical college stressors. Perhaps past relationships, trauma, or negative experiences have impacted you. It can be so frustrating and isolating to focus on healing in order to build a better future. You don’t have to be alone in it. It is natural for people to get stuck throughout life, especially during transitions (and college is a big one!). I am here to help you adapt and reconnect with yourself. You want to reconnect with the version of you know have seemingly disconnected from. Reconnecting with things YOU enjoy and learning to put yourself first. Through building coping skills and in a safe and compassionate therapy space, together, we will work to build the best version of you. When people come to treatment with problems, it is important to remember that they are trying to cope with them in the best way they can. With that in mind, I offer a reflective and engaging partnership with my clients, working toward the goal of helping them to be autonomous, authentic and compassionate in a world that can be extremely stressful. Although my work is solidly grounded in psychodynamic, cognitive/learning, and systems theories, my approach is client-centered, practical and strengths-based. I bring honesty, warmth, and humor to the therapy relationship. I am LGBTQ affirmative and invested in doing cross-cultural therapy which is culturally sensitive. I have a dog, Bracket, who works with me, and I have been doing AAT since 2002. There is a growing body of research which suggests that AAT (Animal-Assisted Therapy) can be helpful with a range of diagnoses, including Depression, PTSD, and Autistic Spectrum. Many therapists know little about online games such as World of Warcraft and Second Life. They may dismiss it as unimportant, or assume it is a problem. I am a gamer-affirmative therapist, meaning I’m more interested in understanding your in-world experience and activity than pathologizing it.
I believe the most important foundation in therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. The therapy relationship can be a safe place to practice new skills that you are hoping to bring back to the rest of your life. My goal is to help you to feel safe during your time with me, so that you can explore yourself, your challenges, your strengths, your history, and anything else that is important to you. I also hope to help you make the changes that you would like to make in your life. Maybe you can feel better than you do now. Maybe you can learn more skills to cope with what feels hard. Maybe you need to be heard and validated. Whatever brings you to therapy, I’m here for it.
