Therapists for college students near New York University
I believe therapy is a space to reconnect with yourself, with the parts that have been silenced, criticized, or forgotten. I see my role as someone who listens with deep care and genuine curiosity, while also supporting you as you explore how your experiences and emotions shape your journey through life. Together, we will create a space where all parts of you are welcome and where healing and meaningful change can begin to take root. I welcome all clients and especially value working with those from LGBTQ+, BIPOC, immigrant, and international student communities. My approach mainly draws from CBT and person-centered frameworks while always centering cultural humility and curiosity. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. I will meet you where you are, and together we will find what works for you, whether that is building practical tools, unpacking old patterns, or simply having a space to be heard. Feel free to reach out any questions you might have!
College can be an incredible time of growth—but it can also be overwhelming. Between managing academics, friendships, identity shifts, and planning for your future, it’s normal to feel stretched thin, anxious, or unsure of yourself. Therapy can be a steady place to land—a space where you can process what’s coming up, sort through decisions, and feel more like yourself again. Whether you're navigating a recent breakup, feeling disconnected or burnt out, or just needing someone to talk to who gets it—you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. I work with college students just like you to help build confidence, increase self-awareness, and support your mental, emotional, and relational health in meaningful, real-life ways. Our work is collaborative, judgment-free, and always tailored to who you are and what you need most. If your parent or caregiver is supporting you financially through therapy, that's something we can absolutely talk about—together, we’ll make sure this feels like a valuable, empowering experience for you, and a meaningful investment in your wellbeing. Your life is happening now. Let’s help you feel more stable, supported, and ready to thrive in it. I’d love to hear more about where you’re at and how I can help. 📩 Jennifer@modernmft.com 📞 917.708.7088

Ms. Emily Villeneuve is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has worked in several different settings with a wide variety of people with different presenting problems and demographics. She is a graduate of Baruch College and completed her graduate internship at Daytop Village’s outpatient program. From there and over the past several years, Ms. Villeneuve has worked with adults aged 18 + experiencing issues with addiction, anxiety, depression, career challenges and stress, relationship issues, adjustment/transitional stressors, and trauma. She is constantly striving to be informed and competent working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and demographics, including having strong training and awareness working with the LGBTQ population. Client’s can expect a nonjudgmental, respectful space to process their thoughts and feelings with what they bring into the therapy session. Ms. Villeneuve believes in an individualized approach, meeting people with where they are at in their process, and uses techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy. Above all, she believes in the importance of the therapeutic relationship to create change and success.
I specialize in working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds (BIPOC & LGBTQ+ adults) who are navigating life’s challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, anger management, identity exploration (racial, sexual, and gender), abuse, and internalized shame. You don’t have to carry it all alone, shrink yourself, or show up perfectly—I’m here to offer a supportive, affirming space where you can show up authentically, be seen, and heal in a way that feels aligned with your values. As a Black, queer, Afro-traditional spiritualist, my work is deeply rooted in love, liberation, and wellness. I believe healing is both a personal and collective journey—one that calls for self-exploration, connection, and the unlearning of narratives that no longer serve us. My approach blends personal wisdom with professional expertise, allowing me to support clients in understanding how systemic oppression and interpersonal experiences shape their daily lives. I am passionate about creating spaces where people can reclaim their autonomy, heal from trauma, and redefine their narratives in ways that honor their truth. I believe that transformation happens when we feel safe enough to show up fully as ourselves, and I strive to cultivate that safety for every client I work with. If you're seeking a space to explore, heal, and step into your power, I’d be honored to walk alongside you! If you’re interested in reinviting balance and harmony back into your life, please feel free to send an email to awilhite@therapyinsghtspractice.com so that we can discuss further.

I specialize in working with people in their teens and twenties, especially LGBTQ+ folks, and those struggling with self-esteem and overwhelming emotions. Whether you’re seeking to build coping skills for increased emotional balance, improve communication in your close personal relationships, or untangle deep-seated patterns that are holding you back — I can help. I'm not here to tell you what to do or how to do it, but I will listen closely, help you see yourself more clearly, and support you in making the changes you want to make. My style is warm, nonjudgmental, grounded, and collaborative. Because the relationship between therapist and client is the greatest predictor of positive outcomes, I will invest time in gaining your trust and building rapport in order for you to feel as comfortable and safe as possible. Please reach out to schedule a free 15 minute consultation to see if we might be a good fit.
I work with my clients on exploring underlying patterns, unresolved conflicts, and deep-seated emotional concerns that have been causing distress in their relationships with themselves and others. With authenticity and compassion, I work collaboratively with my clients through relationship and attachment issues, depression, anxiety, self-doubt, shame, loneliness, and childhood trauma, toward greater clarity and fulfillment. I foster a thoughtful space for navigating life transitions, complex family dynamics, questions of identity and purpose, as well as overall feelings of being stuck or lost. I understand that trust takes time and care to develop. Together, we’ll cultivate a relationship in which you can come to feel safe and free to express what’s troubling you. I’ll help you make better sense of what you’ve been struggling with and why, and support you in tuning into and working toward what well-being might look and feel like for you. Talking together with honesty and curiosity can deepen your understanding of yourself and your experiences and build resilience, which both support authentic, lasting growth. As this process unfolds, it can help you make changes that foster a more integrated sense of self, greater connection in relationships, and a stronger sense of meaning in life. It takes courage to reach out for help. Sometimes, the tools and supports we have aren’t enough to navigate big transitions and changes in our lives, or to make the changes we long for. In those moments, therapy can help us understand what’s holding us back and develop a plan that will help reduce our suffering and increase well-being. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and goal-oriented. I am passionate about partnering with young adults and families in the journey toward healing and believe strongly in providing identity-affirming, culturally responsive care at all stages of the therapeutic process. I specialize in evidence-based treatment for a variety of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, traumatic stress, OCD, borderline personality disorder, and ADHD. I also work with individuals who struggle with self-harming behaviors, addiction, and suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors. If you are looking for support and not sure where to turn to next, feel free to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation.

Hey, glad you're here! Being a student is not just about education, is it? We've got lives outside of school, and all those moving parts can get us feeling overwhelmed, going a million miles per hour all the time, burnt out, lost, unmotivated, or even just numb. I work best with clients who are open to feedback, stay consistent in their care, and stay curious to explore different perspectives of their narrative. AKA, all I ask is that you show up to this space that I will prepare for you in which you can be totally you. Without the filters, photoshop, and all the overthinking of what the "right" thing to say is. You don't have to hold onto everything you're going through alone. Let's speak it out and game plan together on a weekly basis. If you feel like you don't even have the language to describe your experience, that's okay! We can build from the ground up. Maybe it'll help to think of it like this: I'm offering therapy like a key to a secret room that no one else has access to but you and I. You can learn and master skills in our therapeutic space, and it won't impact the real world at all because what happens and is heard in here, stays in here. That could look like role-playing a confrontational discussion you might've been avoiding with your roommate or just even saying an insecurity out loud for the first time and reality-checking it. It also just might be practicing how to say 'No' to different people in your life and finally setting boundaries that actually serve you. Then, when you're ready, you take those skills into the real world, and we watch your life change, perhaps slowly, but surely. Therapist shopping can definitely be overwhelming, so I invite you to get to know me through a 10-minute consultation through Zoom. I'll answer any questions, we'll be able to put a face and voice to the name, and you can feel out the overall vibe!
I am a NY licensed clinical psychologist with 25+ years of experience. I integrate different psychotherapy approaches in a non-judgemental, empathic, culturally sensitive, warm and supporting environment. I help people work through relationship problems, stress, depression, history of trauma, anxiety, adjusting to college life, academic pressure, and interpersonal issues, among other issues.
We believe you are powerful—that you can change your circumstances and experience. You know complicated problems don’t have simple solutions. We work closely with you, trying to understand what it’s like to be you, so your life can be more like you want it to be. We are open and non-judgmental. We work psychodynamically. We listen well, and bring a curiosity to your experience that can help you perceive choices and options you didn’t know were possible.
College can break you in quiet ways. Maybe you’re burnt out but still grinding. Anxious but still pretending. You can’t focus, you can’t sleep, you can’t talk about it without feeling like you’re being too much—or not enough. You’re not lazy. You’re not crazy. You’re just overwhelmed, and no one taught you how to deal with it. This is where that changes. Dr. Al-Katib works with college students who are overthinking everything, underperforming despite trying, and getting swallowed by pressure—academic, emotional, social, or all of the above. He helps with ADHD, anxiety, panic, burnout, identity, emotional numbness, and everything else that comes with growing up in chaos. His style is straightforward, respectful, and never sugarcoated. You’ll get strategy, clarity, and support that actually helps you move—not just talk about it. You don’t have to be falling apart to ask for help. But if you are—good. You’ve already taken the first step.
You’ve always been the one who holds it all together — dependable, driven, the go-to person when others need support. But lately, it might feel like the pressure to succeed is coming at the cost of your peace. You’re not alone in that feeling. I work with students who appear to be doing “just fine” on the outside, but underneath are carrying anxiety, self-doubt, and the weight of high expectations. Together, we’ll create space to explore how your past experiences, values, and internal narratives are shaping the way you move through the world — and gently question whether those patterns are still serving you. Therapy with me is relational, collaborative, and grounded in curiosity. You don’t need to show up with the perfect words or a clear goal — just a willingness to begin.
