Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I focus on providing clinical support to clients who would like to achieve higher potential in their life, career, sports and overall life balance. Sometimes people feel stuck in old patterns of behavior and weighed down by previous negative experiences. I utilize several psychotherapeutic modalities that are based on individual needs and goals; allowing clients to move forward in a more positive and fulfilling way. I incorporate nutrition and active life style, if needed, to provide the best results for clients. I believe in holistic integration of mind and body to provide the healing strategies to overcome depression, anxiety, past trauma, mood lability, addiction and difficult life transitions. I also assist athletes with providing them with mental tools to perform at their highest level or coming back from their sport-related injuries. As a clinical social worker, I work with clients as part of the larger system of their family, community and culture. I utilize DBT, CBT, Trauma competency and treatment, integrative medicine for mental health approach and solution focused approaches.

Jung said “We don’t get wounded alone and we don’t heal alone.” Meaning everything that is hurt within a relationship must be healed within one. As a therapist, I believe in deep relational work, whether that is in an individual setting or with a parent-child dyad/triad. I am not about “quick fixes” and believe that the best results come with time and curiosity. I work with both adults as well as caretakers of children alongside their child. I worked a significant portion of my career in a state setting, which has informed my approach as being anti-behavioral, conscious of the impact of systems, and recognizing the importance of our upbringing in our future wellness.

Our Team Our team includes licensed clinicians, provisionally licensed clinicians, and master's-level interns. Our licensed therapists, credentialed in NY, NJ, and CT, bring extensive experience across various therapeutic modalities. Who am I? What is important to me? What do I believe in? What do I want out of life? I know firsthand what it is like to face these questions, especially when rebuilding after disappointment, trauma, and loss. In my own experience and in my experience working with clients, I have found that the most difficult times of our lives can be the catalyst to our greatest growth, and eventually, a sense of peace we had not thought possible. My primary areas of focus are working with clients struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship problems, and spiritual concerns. I integrate acceptance and mindfulness-based practices with evidence-based approaches to tailor a therapy experience that best fits your needs and goals. I believe those of us who struggle the most have the greatest resources for making real change, for building rich, full, and meaningful lives. Let’s work together to navigate life's difficulties, and in the face of challenges, be present, open up, and do what matters.

I appreciate the time you are taking to choose the best person and process for your specific needs. Being a college student requires a lot of difficult choices, and I know finding a counselor can be hard as well. Here are some thoughts about how I work, but please contact me if you have other questions. My goal as a counselor is to shape our work around the needs, goals, and overall direction you want to take in your life. If you have very focused, concrete issues you want to address, we’ll use a solution-focused approach to create plans and strategies for focused change and growth. If you have more broad, complicated things to address, we talk about a deeper purpose and meaning for your life that can serve as a foundation for more significant changes. No matter what you would like to talk about in counseling, we will capitalize on your strengths as a whole person to create the change you seek.
I graduated from UMass Medical school and was trained in adult psychiatry at Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. Prior to going to medical school I received a Masters in Teaching from Boston University and worked as a teacher. This unique background affects my approach to psychiatry. I believe that a good psychiatrist should work with you to help you learn about yourself and your mental health. I am trained in a variety of therapeutic styles including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), psychodynamic therapy, supportive therapy, and Gottman style couples/relationship therapy. During my time at CHA I worked extensively with the Gender and Sexuality Clinic to serve patients of diverse sexual and gender identities. I also co-lead a group therapy for individuals in polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships. I have taught at the American Psychiatric Association’s specialized rotation for HIV Psychiatry, including lectures on how to provide effective telepsychiatry, and I have presented at a national meeting on teaching providers how to better work with patients to prescribe medications. I am a licensed physician in Massachusetts, New York, and California. I offer in person appointments in Somerville, MA as well as secure telehealth appointments to those residing in Massachusetts, New York, and California. In addition to medication management I offer individual and relationship/couples therapy.
