Therapists for college students near Portland, OR
College can feel like a lot — like you’re trying to stay afloat in a fast-moving current. Some days you’re cruising; other days it’s all you can do to keep your head above water. Maybe you’re here because you’re tired of just getting by. Maybe you’re looking for a space to slow down, catch your breath, and figure out what’s next. I believe in meeting people exactly where they are - in the messy, real, complicated parts of being human. My approach is flexible and grounded in empathy, drawing from attachment work, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), parts work, and EMDR. All aimed at helping you feel more connected to yourself and others.
Do you love gaining insight into who you are? Are you a little more introverted and introspective? Do you see life as an opportunity to develop yourself and grow? Do you sometimes also feel guilty over potentially disappointing others, or are you constantly acting as a mediator in your relationships? If these questions resonate- then you might be an internalizer and we can do some wonderful work together to help you understand your past and help you become the most emotionally healthy version of yourself. My practice is focused on helping you develop insight into the "why" behind some of your struggles. I work with people facing depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, identity development (racial, sexual, spiritual, personality, etc), and difficulty processing loss. If any of that resonates please reach out and we can schedule a free consultation.

I am here to remind you that you are already whole. My intention is to walk with you on your healing path and co-create a sacred space where we can tend to your body, mind, and spirit. My approach is heart-centered, non-pathologizing, and grounded in a humanistic lens. I value what evidence-based practices offer us, and hold reverence for the wisdom traditions, somatic knowing, and transpersonal experiences that live outside those frameworks. I also recognize that Western psychology is rooted in colonialism, and I am committed to an approach that honors lineages of healing that the dominant system has excluded. I feel especially called to sit with those navigating anxiety, grief, and religious deconstruction. I weave in mindfulness, somatics, parts work, expressive arts, nature therapy, and transpersonal exploration. I am certified in Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR. I enjoy working with the queer community and Highly Sensitive People (HSPs)—both of which are part of the path I walk. I am Health at Every Size (HAES) aligned. As a solo practice, I do not have a team to provide 24/7 crisis support. Because of this, my practice is a good fit for those who feel steady enough to manage their safety between our weekly sessions. When you reach out, please let me know what about my practice resonates with what you are seeking, your insurance, and your availability.

I work with individuals and relationships from a systemic, decolonial, and anti-oppressive lens. This means that when working with you, I will take into account all the micro and macro systems around you that are affecting you on your day to day, and making you feel like there is something wrong with you. I work with individuals who experience stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma due to problems with their family of origin, major life changes and transitions, relationship issues, work stressors, and the state of the world. I like to pay close attention to how our current social and political climate is also affecting you at a personal level and at a communal level. I do my best work with people who are ready to… - look closely at the stories they've been carrying and gently question which ones no longer serve them, - discover and honor their own needs—not just those of others, - sort through the values they've inherited from family, culture, or society to uncover the ones that truly belong to them, - align values, thoughts, and actions in ways that create deeper integrity and wholeness, and practice setting healthy boundaries and asking for their needs to be met with clarity and self-respect. I may not be the right fit for you if… - you are seeking couples therapy for infidelity or relational violence, - you are unwilling or not yet ready to look at your own patterns or make changes, - you want quick fixes without engaging in the deeper inner work, - or you are looking for therapy that does not center justice, culture, or liberation.

It's hard work to be a person! Each of us, no matter where we are in life, have our own personal struggles and successes to tell. Be it the stress of our present moment, our anxieties about the future, or the pain of our past, I would be honored to support you. As a counselor, I strive to provide a safe, productive, and healing space to understand and accept our past, so that we can fully partake in the gifts of the present. All are celebrated here. My areas of specialization include PTSD, Panic and Anxiety Disorders, Religious/Spiritual Traumas, as well as Bipolar and Schizophrenia Disorders.
College is supposed to be when you figure out who you are, which is a strange task to hand someone who's also drowning in problem sets, roommate drama, and a bank account that hits zero the week before rent. If you're queer, trans, neurodivergent, disabled, fat, BIPOC, or some combination, you're doing that figuring-out with fewer road maps and more people who think your existence needs an explanation. At Soma Roots Therapy, we work with students navigating identity, family expectations, body image, burnout, and the specific loneliness of being surrounded by people and still feeling unseen. Our approach pays attention to what's happening in your body, not just your thought spirals, and it starts from the belief that your struggles usually aren't a personal failing — they're a reasonable response to unreasonable systems (capitalism, diet culture, whichever one's currently ruining your week). We're LGBTQIA2S+ affirming, neurodivergent-affirming, and fat-affirming as a baseline, not a specialty. No pronoun explanations required. No convincing us your body is fine as it is. We show up, we listen, and yes, we'll probably crack a joke somewhere in there — healing doesn't have to be humorless, even when it's hard. We see clients by telehealth across Oregon and Washington, so therapy can happen between classes instead of instead of them. Check out our website to see which insurances we accept and to schedule your Free 20-minute Consult directly from our website to see if we might be a good fit for you.

As a fellow Duck I am passionate about helping U of O students improve their mental health. I have experience working with students for over 16 years. I will work to help you identify patterns that are keeping you stuck, stagnant, and from reaching your full potential. I have supported students experiencing generalized and academic anxiety, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), ADHD, depression, chronic and acute medical conditions, life adjustments, stress management, grief and loss, and trauma. I am committed to supporting individuals heal from their traumatic experiences and allowing their vulnerable selves to feel seen. I have experience working with students who have experienced sudden grief and loss, traumatic break-ups, and psychological, physical, and sexual abuse. I have experience working with BIPOC and LGBTQIA2+ students who are experiencing discrimination, marginalization, dismissal, and micro and macro aggressions. I have completed trainings and hold certifications in EMDR, ACT, DBT, CBT, and Mindfulness. Therapy is a courageous act that requires vulnerability, authenticity, and an openness to self-discovery. If you are ready to begin this process I look forward to connecting with you.
Trauma recovery involves the process of healing both the body and mind from overwhelming experiences by reconnecting with oneself in an integrated way. It includes developing interoception—the ability to sense and interpret internal bodily cues—which helps individuals notice and respond to their emotional and physical states with greater awareness and regulation. Recovery also involves working with both implicit memories (unconscious, body-held responses like tension or startle reflexes) and explicit memories (conscious, narrative recollections of events). Through therapeutic approaches that access these memory systems, individuals begin to make sense of their experiences, reduce reactivity, and create new, safer associations, allowing for a more grounded and empowered sense of self.
With 27 years of experience in the counseling field, I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and move toward meaningful, lasting change. I have worked with diverse populations facing a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, grief and loss, addiction, relationship challenges, insomnia, and major life transitions. I also have extensive experience supporting individuals living with ADHD, Panic Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia/Schizoaffective Disorder, and Borderline Personality Disorder. Many come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to cope, but motivated for change. I help by providing a safe, nonjudgmental space built on trust, empathy, and active listening. Using evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, Person-Centered Therapy, Harm Reduction, and Illness Management and Recovery, I tailor treatment to each individual. Reaching out for support can feel difficult, but you don’t have to face things alone. I offer a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you can be heard and understood. When you’re ready, I invite you to take that next step toward healing and meaningful change.
I offer a warm and non-judgemental space, integrating multiple therapeutic approaches including client-centered, cognitive behavioral and narrative therapy. I support clients managing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, substance use and relationship issues. I have extensive experience helping young adults and university students navigate their experiences. I believe each of us has a capacity to grow and heal and that the therapeutic relationship provides a context for those processes. I strive to meet each client where they are and I believe that engaging with counseling is itself a step towards healing.
I offer a safe and consistent virtual space for adults of all ages to work through current stress, manage issues like anxiety, depression, and relationship issues, and to resolve past trauma. My practice offers flexibility and the option to heal in an environment you can control, while my skills and experience allow me to foster a connection between us that is real and lasting. My clients often use the space to process their needs, to practice creating conscious connection between their minds and bodies, and to explore strategies that will offer them freedom and relief from traumatic stress. We'll have purposeful conversations that help build insight and clarity around your thoughts, feelings, and other internal experiences. Using virtual, trauma informed strategies based on current neuroscience such as EMDR, you can resolve past trauma, often leading to improvements in mood, energy levels, and ability to manage daily stress. Whether you're processing your experiences or learning new strategies, our sessions will take on a predictable, reliable flow that you can count on for help and support. If you have the sense we’d be a good fit for your needs, please feel free to reach out to set up a free consultation. I look forward to hearing from you!
