I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Professional Dog Trainer, and I am a perfect fit if you are missing your pet and believe healing feels better with an animal by your side. At Comfort Companions Counseling, I bring the human-animal bond into therapy in a real and meaningful way, creating a warm and judgment-free space where you can slow down, reconnect with yourself, and build real coping skills. I specialize in working with college students navigating anxiety, depression, chronic stress, trauma, life transitions, and the emotional exhaustion that comes with trying to do it all. Services include individual telehealth therapy, Animal-Assisted Therapy, and The Comfort Canine Program, a 5-week therapy dog assisted somatic group designed specifically for college students. I also conduct ESA evaluations with care and thoroughness, and a letter will be provided if clinically appropriate following the completion of the evaluation. Sessions are held via telehealth so you can show up from wherever feels most comfortable — your dorm, your apartment, or your couch. Your pet is always welcome to join, and my co-therapist Milly, a certified therapy dog, can also be part of your sessions for extra support and comfort.

I DO TELEHEALTH I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief and loss and bipolar disorder, school/work adjustment and stress. You might feel overwhelmed and alone with so many obligations and responsibilities. Maybe you are under constant pressure and you don't see room for change. It's hard to see a possibility for change when you keep looking at the problem with one perspective, your own perspective. Let's talk about it, you are not alone. I have years experience in community health and private practice. I've worked with people at all levels of function, resources, financial support or crisis. The one true constant for those people I've been fortunate enough to work with is that personal resources are already inside them. Sometimes people have trouble accessing these strengths or they may be burred by noisy negative self-talk, worn out or unhelpful ideas about ourselves and other emotional baggage. I'm here to help so give me a call. I am currently offering telehealth sessions and this is covered by most insurances.

Informed by psychodynamic & psychoanalytic therapies, I believe in the profound capacity of relationships to heal, transform, and support meaningful growth. I am welcoming of people of all backgrounds and identities, and have extensive experience with individuals of diverse identities & marginalized backgrounds including BIPOC, queer, and immigrant communities. Wherever you are in your life’s journey and no matter your reasons for seeking therapy, I strive to foster a safe, compassionate and non-judgmental space where you can feel at home and supported to explore those issues that are most on your mind, as well as work together on troubling and self-defeating behavior patterns.

My approach cultivates empowerment through compassionate support. I fully believe that within you, resides the inherent capacity to find your way through the most difficult of circumstances. It is my perspective however, that we often just need a bit of assistance in cultivating that path. While I work with clients on a variety of issues, my specialization is in treating chronic and complex PTSD through a somatic and attachment-focused lens. ADHD, nutrition/lifestyle change, body image and self-esteem are further treatment areas of niche interest. With more than 15 years of extensive career experience as a psychotherapist and in the field of behavioral health, I have come to one solid conclusion: The path toward healing is not so much about becoming anything. Often, it is about unbecoming everything that isn’t you, so that you can be who you were truly meant to be in the first place.

Finding a good therapy match is crucial to bringing about the change that you desire in your life. Working with someone where you feel seen, understood and challenged in a non-threatening way creates the safety to explore the unknown and grow into your full potential. I have been in private practice for 16 years and I trained and worked at Tufts University Counseling Center for 4 years. In the wise words of author Sharon Salzberg, "If I opened my heart and mind big enough to take in the suffering, then there would be healing- not because the suffering itself is redemptive or healing, but because of the opening I was cultivating in the face of it."

Welcome! I work primarily with those who identify as high achievers, problem solvers, and doers. Often that identity can be really functional in some parts of life, but leave us feeling stuck, confused, and frustrated in other parts of life. You can find me on Instagram at @act_therapy_pgh.

My clinical interests include complex trauma, childhood abuse, sexual abuse/assault, intimate partner violence, traumatic grief, suicidal ideation, and complex family concerns. My name is Rachel Noderer and I have spent the past 10 years helping individuals develop a stronger sense of compassion for themselves and mastery over their own identity. I work with folks who may be struggling with a lack of purpose, low self esteem, anxiety, or difficulty managing relationships with friends and loved ones. As we work together, my hope is that you will gradually feel more centered in your sense of self. You'll feel like you are making decisions more thoughtfully and that you are acting in accordance with your values. While I tailor my specific therapeutic interventions to meet your needs, my preference is for a conversational non-directive approach to explore and discover underlying patterns that may be influencing your experiences. I am a person-centered therapist first and foremost - which means I prioritize placing you and all of your intersecting identities at the center of the story. You are the expert in your own life and I'm here to walk beside you, provide feedback, and most importantly provide you the space you need to figure things out. Therapy with me may feel like sitting down with a friend who is your biggest cheerleader. I value curiosity, humor, and reflection in therapy and I strive to create lots of space for those qualities in our work together. I am queer-affirming, trans-affirming, sex-positive, and believe in practicing Health at Every Size. I also have experience in and am comfortable working with individuals in the kink/BDSM community as well as individuals practicing consensual non-monogamy.

As a licensed psychologist, I work with adults and adolescents seeking personal growth and change through psychotherapy. Areas of focus within my practice include anxiety, depression, college student mental health, graduate student mental health, career planning and change, partner relationship concerns, grief and loss, life-long and acquired disability issues, and adjustment to life changes such as medical diagnoses, traumatic brain injury, relationship loss, school transition and death of a loved one. I work extensively with undergraduate students with academic and mental health concerns. Academic stress, choice of major, career direction and planning, time management, motivational difficulties, underachievement, disability adaptation needs, and relationship/family issues are common concerns brought to therapy by college-aged students. Having a safe, reliable space to explore concerns and develop solutions can enhance well-being, satisfaction and success. The academic and research responsibilities of graduate programs can be challenging to juggle. In addition, graduates school can often be an isolating time for many students. Motivation, goal clarification, stress management, school-life balance, relationships, financial concerns, and post-graduate career exploration and planning are among the many challenges graduate students face in their academic lives. Work with graduate students is an integral part of my practice.
