Therapists for college students near Pittsburgh, PA
I thoroughly enjoy working young adult clients. This stage of life is filled with change, exploration of self, and forging of independence -- this can also mean that it's not always easy to ask for help, and a degree of hesitancy exists to allow even the most loving family members and friends into their worlds. I regularly work with clients that are struggling with major life transitions, depression, anxiety, or eating disorders. My clients are often seeking safety, understanding, and freedom from their negative thoughts. The foundation of my approach is person-centered and humanistic. I believe in the healing nature of the therapeutic relationship and a non-judgmental space to process life experiences.
The New London Counseling Center is a place for our community to gather, connect, and heal. We are a not-for-profit organization that is committed to promoting the emotional, relational and spiritual well-being of individuals and families. We believe in providing high quality, compassionate therapy and educational workshops to our community, regardless of one’s ability to pay. Our team of licensed clinicians bring their diverse experiences and specialties to our practice with the goal of creating a culture that promotes mental well-being and destigmatizes therapy. We acknowledge that we are all broken, and we can all benefit from professional support at one time or another. Through our community-centered approach, we intend to tear down the walls of traditional mental health delivery by meeting people where they are every day – their places of work, their gyms, their civic groups or places to volunteer – and offer free community workshops.
NCW is dedicated to providing quality mental health counseling and wellness services which are informed by the latest innovations in psychotherapy. The mission of this dynamic practice is to help clients achieve their goals by providing individualized, compassionate, and culturally responsive services by enacting the values of self-awareness, self-care, professional development, cultural competency, transparency, and social justice/advocacy.
Do you struggle with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, burnout, or feeling disconnected from yourself or others? Even if you’ve learned ways to cope, do you feel ready to process what you’ve been holding and begin healing more deeply? The clients I work with are often thoughtful, resilient individuals who want to better understand their experiences and reclaim a sense of safety, balance, joy, and meaning in their lives. Some are curious about exploring creative expression as a way to access emotions and experiences that may be difficult to talk about directly.
I believe that you are already capable of change and I guide you through stepping into it. I specialize in anxiety, stress, life transitions, and relationships. Much of my work has been in treating anxious individuals who struggle with worry, self-doubt, and "analysis paralysis". I can help you recognize what is interfering with your daily life, relationships and overall well-being and adopt healthier belief systems. I am also especially passionate about helping couples recognize the "stuck points" in their communication patterns and replace them with with vulnerability, closeness, and connection. Primarily, I work with adults, couples, and teens/young adults. My passion is helping people gain insight and tools that foster personal growth and relief from their symptoms! I particularly value the mind-body-spirit connection and strive to work alongside my clients to achieve an individualized holistic treatment plan that promotes self-awareness and growth. Ready to start feeling better? Reach out! Starting therapy can be daunting - and you feeling like you are in the right hands is important to me. I believe healing happens within the context of authentic and supportive relationship. I aim to make our time together filled with curiosity and compassion. Let’s be real. Life is hard. It is messy and crazy and sometimes, it just feels out of control. Your space is a mess, your roommates are on your last nerve, you have a major assignment to work on, and you just cannot get a moment to think straight. Then there’s that thought in the background that you’re not doing enough, that you’re not enough. You’re questioning yourself and feeling overwhelmed. College is hard. This phase of life is hard. Feeling the pressure to succeed can feel unbearable. This is where therapy comes in. To learn how to address these thoughts & emotions in a safe space and develop a plan of action to move forward, feeling confident in yourself.
I mostly work with people in their 20s and 30s who experience depression and anxiety or need help navigating substance use, self-esteem, body image, identity development, sexuality, and interpersonal relationships. Life is full of highs and lows, and it is through these experiences and emotions that we grow. I would love the opportunity to help you work through the lows and discover a stronger and healed version of yourself. I have experience working in the collegiate counseling setting, helping students navigate anxiety, depression, adjustment, and substance use issues. I also have experience creating a safe space and working with LGBTQIA+ students with identity development, body image issues, and interpersonal relationships.
Many of my patients are people with multicultural/multiracial families and relationships, immigrants or the adult children of immigrants, people of Asian descent, graduate students, clinicians, or people who still feel empty and unsatisfied after achieving conventional hallmarks of success. Many have experienced shifts in class and/or religious identity who are looking to more deeply understand how their experience of depression, anxiety, or trauma is tied to these transgenerational and cross-cultural forces. With empathy and care, I will partner with you to explore your life, history, culture(s), and the wider world to see how these shape your inner experiences and relationships. In addition to feeling better, my hope is to help you to discover and create new ways of being in the world that feel more alive, flexible, authentic, resilient, and effective. Many people have mixed feelings about starting therapy and finding the right fit is so important for meaningful and long-lasting changes. If this profile has resonated with you in some way, there are no fees or commitments for the initial consultation. If you'd like to meet and learn more, please reach out today or visit my website.
