Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially when you're already balancing classes, relationships, family expectations, work, and everything else that comes with college life. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or simply looking for extra support, I'm glad you're here. I'm Mary Mesiha, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with over 20 years of experience helping young adults navigate life's challenges. I specialize in working with college students facing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationship concerns, self-esteem, trauma, and the pressures that often come with this stage of life. I believe the relationship you have with your therapist is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. My goal is to provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, gain practical tools, and build confidence as you work toward the life you want. I offer a free 30-minute consultation so we can get to know each other, discuss what you're looking for, and determine whether we're a good fit. I would be honored to support you through this chapter of your life.

Whether you're new to college or looking towards graduation, I am here to listen to your concerns and work through challenging moments - past and present. Together we will navigate the phases of your healing journey and enact change that leads you to your goals. That murky intersection of anxiety, depression, trauma and relational challenges can be daunting to navigate alone. We'll use a combination of concrete skills to address immediate concerns and insight-oriented therapy to uncover patterns and take steps towards long-term change. I typically see folks who encounter issues related to trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, gender and sexuality, and relationship issues. I specialize in trauma of all kinds. We will cater your treatment to your needs and let them determine our timeline. My therapeutic approach draws from the psychodynamic tradition and DBT. My unique approach weaves together insight-oriented therapy with skills-based strategies. Therapy can feel overwhelming and I’m here to ease the process in any way I can. Let’s address your questions and concerns from the outset. Check out my website for more and reach out for a phone consult! I now offer expanded availability for therapy sessions on all weekdays. I also host a small virtual DBT group for LGBTQ+ folks and a small virtual LGBTQ+ support group. Inquire for more details!

Inevitably, life presents difficulties, and can be challenging for many different reasons. Sometimes the things that bring people to therapy are very specific: perhaps a major life transition has become overwhelming, or certain patterns within a relationship are starting to take a toll. Pressures in some particular setting, whether it is at school, at work, or at home, may be feeling too difficult to navigate alone. Other times, people come to therapy a little less certain, feeling confused and unsure about where their life is headed, wanting something more. It’s not always easy to answer the question, “What brings you here?” People tend to doubt their inner strengths, and don’t quite realize how many resources they in fact possess. I have found that, though conversation with a trusted person, people can more easily identify and then build on those strengths. In my work with children, we often talk about expanding their “toolbox,” so that they have the skills to better manage overwhelming emotions and navigate complicated social situations. With teenagers and young adults, we often find ourselves talking about questions of identity development - the process of learning about who we are, how we got there, and what we want for ourselves moving forward. I see growth and development as a lifetime process, and, in my work with adults, we address all these issues in increasingly varied and complex ways, while also working together to navigate complex challenges presented by a world that can be arbitrary and unfair. My past experiences, doing individual and family therapy with people of all ages, of diverse backgrounds, and difficult, sometimes traumatic histories and life circumstances, have engendered within me a core belief that with the right support and collaboration, it is possible to make meaningful and long-lasting changes.

There are a lot of really good reasons to start therapy. For some this may be be uncovering the authentic self, finding a felt sense of safety, and the confidence to build meaningful and lasting relationships. In my fifteen years of practice I have developed an approach that is intuitive and individualized, blending emotional insight, mind body awareness, and an understanding of your lived experience. I work holistically, identifying the emotional, physical, and situational pieces that shape your inner world. I work with individuals wanting to discover ways to move more authentically and confidently through this moment in their life. Whether that is adjusting to a major life changes, break ups, or dealing with emotional challenges. I provide additional specialized care for those recovering from religious trauma, purity culture, and spiritual abuse. I understand that getting into therapy can be a challenge in its own right. I am happy to walk you through logistical concerns and insurance verifications. All sessions are done through telehealth. You can book a consultation directly through amybook.clientsecure.me or reach out through email

I work with adults of all backgrounds who experience issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, complex trauma, and grief, as well as concerns related to self-esteem, identity, and relationships. Therapy can be a way to deepen your understanding of your challenges so you can experience more clarity and connection in your life. I am particularly passionate about longer-term, depth-oriented work that supports clients in building understanding and empathy with themselves in order to move towards a life they feel good about. My approach to therapy is warm and informed by psychodynamic, attachment, relational, and trauma principles. I am also training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for trauma treatment. I believe in showing up exactly as you are on any given day, the power of humor, and working collaboratively in the therapy space. I have deep respect for the lived experiences and wisdom of each person, understanding that everyone is navigating a world with joys, pain, and sorrows that can be difficult to face alone. I am interested in exploring how mental health, relationships, and trauma are connected to/impacted by systemic issues including racism, classism, and ableism.

Through my own lived experience, I can deeply resonate with the realities my Millennial and Gen Z clients face. Dating, social media, politics, finances, and demands from school or work can be so daunting. My main priority as a therapist is to create a non-judgmental, engaging, and approachable environment where you feel empowered to navigate these challenges together. Just having one of those days where you need to vent about your mom, partner, or roommate? There’s plenty of space for that too. While I pull from many approaches in my work, I especially enjoy utilizing skills-based therapies like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). These can address concerns like anxiety, stress, interpersonal conflict, sleep, and more. My goal is that you leave each and every session feeling more ready to take on what life is throwing your way. If you’re looking to gain control amidst our out-of-control world, I’d love to connect with you. Please don’t hesitate in reaching out for a free 15-minute consultation.

If you are struggling to make sense of your emotions, connect with others in a meaningful way, feel stuck in old patterns, or navigate a life transition, Cassie might be a good fit. We often spend so much energy trying to figure out why we feel the way we do - only to end up exhausted, frustrated, and still unsure.
