Therapists for college students near New York University
Hello! I’m Rachel, and welcome to therapy! If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward, therapy can be a space to better understand what you're going through and begin creating meaningful change. I’m a queer psychotherapist trained in clinical social work and trauma-informed care. I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ clients and also welcome individuals of all identities who are navigating identity exploration, depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma including CPTSD/PTSD, and more. Also, I offer ketamine integration therapy. I have additional experience working with college students and young adults, and understand the joys and challenges that come with this phase of life. My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each person’s needs. I aim to create a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood so we can explore what’s bringing you to therapy and work toward meaningful change. Together, we may focus on understanding patterns in your thoughts and relationships, processing difficult (and happy!) experiences, and developing tools that help you move through life with greater clarity and resilience.
Every person is unique, each with their own narratives and perspectives. I subscribe to the belief that a new therapy is constructed for each person I work with. From the outset of treatment on through a process of self-discovery— challenging circumstances, past traumas, and negative belief structures lay the groundwork for seeds of strength and growth. All individuals possess the capacity to change their lives and I will work with you to process adversity and conflict into resilience and peace. I like to tailor my method to the person sitting across from me, though I do specialize in an approach which encompasses psychodynamic perspectives and behavioral techniques. These tend to help clients explore unconscious patterns and enactments while offering practical tools for immediate relief from issues such as anger, grief, depression, and anxiety. In treatment, I am a human first and a therapist second. I am committed to providing a safe, supportive environment for you to explore the vulnerabilities which lie beneath anxious manifestations. I am warm, curious, direct, and I bring a sense of humor to discussions focused around how you see your multifaceted self in the myriad roles you inhabit.
As a therapist, I specialize in helping adolescents and young adults find their footing and create meaningful change in their lives. My approach is warm, conversational, and focused on building a genuine connection so you feel truly heard and understood. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, self-esteem, or figuring out who you are, I’m here to help you navigate the hard stuff and move toward the life you want. I believe therapy works best when it feels real and collaborative, and I’m committed to walking alongside you every step of the way. If you’re looking for a therapist who’s relatable, supportive, and invested in your growth, I’d love to work with you.
My approach is to start where you are. I want to hear your story and your journey. We will explore your concerns and decide together about possible next steps and solutions. I have over 20 years of non-profit social service work, particularly during the peak of the AIDS epidemic. I learned so much about perseverance, courage, and grief through my experience. I look forward to supporting you towards finding the same healing and discovering just how strong you really are. I am a graduate of the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and a proud member of Gen X. I have extensive expertise with LGBTQIA+ young adults, grief and grieving, depression, and anxiety. I am a native New Yorker, a married lesbian in New York City, and a parent to two cranky cats. I am committed to a safe, welcoming space, and my goal is to assist you on the journey towards healing.
I am a Latina therapist, clinical supervisor, speaker, consultant, and founder of Capaz Counseling. I oversee staff who provide $25 therapy sessions because I believe in supporting the mission of accessible care. I specialize in Attachment and Trauma Therapy and create communities for fellow BIPOC therapists. Over the past decade, in hospitals, non-profits, and school-based mental health clinics, I’ve supported adults, children, and families on a path of attunement and embodied relationships. I flow between Psychodynamic Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology and Emotionally Focused Therapy, to help folx deepen the relationship they hold with themselves and others. There is strength in understanding the patterns that shape you, and I help shine a light on your immense capacity for growth within and beyond those patterns. Together we will reflect on your inner and outer world so that we can hold space for somatic connection, holistic understanding, and compassion for all parts of you. I enjoy working with those from all walks of life. My expertise shines particularly in supporting BIPOC and LGBTQIAGNC folx navigating their professional world, young adults developing their identity(ies), those who’ve experienced trauma, and parents who would like to create new generational cycles in their parenting. As a first-gen entrepreneur, I believe in the power of creating spaces for us, by us. In addition to managing my practice, I’ve found joy in the community I’ve created by launching a New York BIPOC therapist consultation group and listserv, and in supporting emerging practices and early-career therapists navigate their journeys.

My goal is to foster a safe, supportive relationship where you feel empowered to explore, grow, and create meaningful change.
I specialize in supporting young adults, professionals, and couples who experience challenges with relationships, anxiety, self-esteem, and chronic illness. Finding calm and balance is essential when the world around us is changing so quickly. In fact, times of uncertainty provide opportunities for us to look within, reevaluate our priorities, and recognize what we really need. I’m here to give you concrete help, guidance, and tools to navigate change, communicate effectively, and identify your wants and needs. I work to create a safe, judgment-free space that supports you in finding your truths.

Therapy can deepen your capacity for love, trust, and connection — with yourself and with others. I’ve seen it ease depression, anxiety, and shame; strengthen self-esteem; and help people become more resilient during life’s ups and downs. Most of all, it can bring forward a truer, more authentic self. Therapy is a collaborative process. You speak, and I listen closely — for what’s said and what lies beneath the surface — helping you see what may be getting in the way of a more fulfilling life. As Carl Rogers wrote: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” I’ve found that to be true. Patients find it helpful to explore childhood, memories that bubble up, dreams, feelings, fears, wishes — whatever arises. Our aim is an understanding of your inner world that leads to meaningful action & choice. With couples, I help you listen more clearly & break entrenched patterns. Everyone longs to be seen and heard & I'll help you arrive at that place. As a therapist and writer, I’m inspired to help each patient take hold of their narrative — understanding where they’ve come from & where they’d like to go. As we get to know one another, I tailor my style to your personality and needs. Your feedback is always encouraged. Email me to schedule a consultation & see if we’re a good fit. I am an Asian American therapist with over 10 years of experience working with undergraduate and graduate students, traditional and non-traditional. My aim as a therapist is to offer my clients a space where they can take the time from their otherwise hectic schedules to pause and be curious about their feelings, behaviors, and reactions. Often we can feel like we are moving from one task to another and before long, we lose touch with why we started on the path we are on in the first place. In therapy, one can reconnect with the parts of themselves needed to feel balanced and thrive. I also strongly believe that the relationship between therapist and client is key for one to be able to explore, reflect, and ultimately heal. As such, I prioritize in creating a safe, supportive space where we may work together to better understand your unique experiences.
