I’m a clinical psychologist working in Hudson Valley NY and the Greater New York City Area, and a credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor. I’m passionate about helping individuals overcome challenges and leverage their strengths to live meaningfully. I help individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, and emotional or behavioral challenges. In addition, I’m experienced in working with students, in addressing women’s issues, trauma, and working with people in recovery from addictions/substance use disorders. People of faith find my approach connects with their worldview as I also specialize in Christian counseling. Individuals from the Caribbean and Africa appreciate my background and familiarity with their experiences relating to multicultural and immigration adjustment. “My firm belief is that there’s always hope, that impossibilities can become possibilities, and that we should keep moving towards those dreams.”

These are difficult times and there is absolutely no reason for you to bear this pain on your own. I would like to accompany you along your journey towards healing. I will help you to remember your strengths and purpose. We will work collaboratively to tackle the challenges that keep you stuck. There are brighter days ahead. Finding a therapist who is a good fit can be a daunting task. Do you worry about the future? Would you describe yourself as having difficulty with perfectionism, relationships with family & friends, social anxiety or identity? We are a small practice with two therapists--Spencer & Carlie who love providing therapy to young adults as they navigate this exciting and nerve wracking time moving from childhood and dependence to adulthood and independence. We often work with young adults who may have had therapy in high school but did not previously find therapy helpful (often due to a lack of agency in picking their therapist, misunderstanding or invalidation of their experiences, disruptions in confidentiality or lack of concrete coping skills/goals worked on). We provide a reparative experience where clients feel genuinely supported and able to advocate and ask for what they need. We use a variety of different therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal-Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Attachment Based Therapy, EMDR, Goal-oriented Therapy and Mindfulness. Our clients often move towards a feeling of confidence, improved relationships and belief in their abilities to handle any challenges that may come their way.

You are the expert of your own experience and know best what supports you and what may no longer be serving you. In our work together, I will seek to highlight and validate how the social environment and systems have impacted your relationship with yourself and others, and to use the therapy space as an opportunity to dismantle hierarchies. To do this, I use an integrated, person-centered psychodynamic approach grounded in compassion. This includes using concepts from Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatics, mindfulness and analysis. I identify as queer and will bring a queer lens to our work together by asking how you have constructed meaning of your world, by recognizing your strengths and by supporting you in developing new insight. I am a Licensed Master of Social Work, an artist and an educator. I have experience working with people in creative fields, navigating their gender and sexual identities, anxiety, depression, life and career transitions and higher education.

My therapeutic style is based on the belief that good rapport is essential to accomplish our therapeutic goals. While I think in terms of family of origin issues, I intervene through many diverse approaches depending on the needs of the person. These approaches include thoughts, bodily sensations, feelings, and the experiences of childhood. I follow the lead of whom I am working with and tailor my psychotherapeutic work to fit where they are at in their psychological development. A primary focus is to help one become at ease with oneself. I enjoy working with a wide variety of people and issues. On any given day, I might see a woman with career issues, a man with emotional intimacy concerns, a couple with communication difficulties and a child with angry outbursts. I find meaning fostering change and growth. I am informed by positive psychology theory with its emphasis on growth, development, enhancement of authenticity, optimal performance and happiness. Implementing the concepts of "Flow", character strengths, resilience, optimism and gratitude. I am committed to you feeling fulfilled, present in your life and accomplishing your goals.

Imagine actually ENJOYING therapy. Imagine looking forward to therapy each week because your therapist "gets" you and works with you in a down-to-earth way to address your goals. Since therapy is an intense process that tackles intense issues, we believe it should also include authenticity (on our part), humor, and flexibility. We love working with college students and are energetic, creative, and hands-on. We'll work together to design a personalized approach to address your specific goals. Our therapists specialize in a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, LGBTQ+ identities, and health challenges.

College is constantly marketed as "the best years of your life," but honestly? Most days it just feels like a high-pressure cycle of performing, over-thinking, and trying to keep your head above water. Maybe you’ve done everything "right"—you’re passing the classes, you’ve got the internship, and your LinkedIn looks great—but on the inside, you’re dealing with major anxiety, burnout, or just a heavy sense of “is this it?” It’s exhausting to feel like you’re just going through the motions while everyone else seems to have their life together. I’m not here to lecture you or give you a "to-do" list. I provide a real, non-judgmental space where you can finally just breathe and be yourself. Using a mix of IFS and Narrative therapy, we’ll look at the patterns holding you back and help you figure out who you actually want to be—not who your parents, your professors, or your peers expect you to be. You deserve to feel grounded and at peace, even when the future feels like one big question mark. Let’s work together so you can stop just getting by and start leading your own life.

I often work with young people struggling to understand who they are and why they do the things they do. This may be felt as a gnawing sense of dissatisfaction or despair, or a more intense experience of feeling lost and out of control. We work together to identify your concerns in a safe environment that emphasizes giving language to emotional experience, identifying unconscious patterns of behavior, and finding meaning in your life.
