Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Monica Parham
I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor specializing in anxiety, life transitions, and relationship concerns for adolescents and adults. Over nearly four years of clinical work, I've had the privilege of sitting with teens and adults through some of life's more difficult stretches: the anxiety that won't quiet down, the relationship stress that follows you everywhere, the emotional weight that builds when you can't quite figure out why you keep ending up in the same place. If you're someone who thinks deeply about yourself and your life but still finds it hard to break certain patterns, you're not alone. Many of the people I work with are self-aware and motivated; they just need a space where insight can turn into real, lasting change. I offer the evidence-based treatment that helps you explore the deeper patterns that shape how you relate to yourself and others. Above all, my goal is to help you feel more grounded, more connected, and more confident as you move through the world. I look forward to being a genuine partner in that process. Therapy works best when it feels honest, collaborative, and equal parts reflective and actionable. When we work together, you can expect a space that is both supportive and candid, somewhere we can get curious about what's bringing you in while also building practical tools to help you move forward. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), schema therapy, and relationally informed approaches, weaving them together in a way that fits who you are rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method. My style is warm, direct, and a little reflective. I'll ask questions that help you see yourself more clearly, and also help you figure out what to actually do with what you discover. Whether you're looking to better understand your patterns, strengthen how you cope with stress, or simply feel more like yourself again, I'll tailor the work to where you are and where you want to go. My path to this work has been shaped in equal parts by where I come from personally and where I've been professionally. Early in my career, I worked at a pediatric neuropsychology clinic serving primarily Latinx families in Washington Heights, where I saw up close how systemic barriers can complicate access to care and add invisible weight to the challenges people are already carrying. That experience left a real mark on me, and strengthened my commitment to showing up in a way that is culturally sensitive, genuinely client-centered, and attuned to the broader context of your life. Growing up in the South Bronx gave me something no classroom could: a deep respect for the resilience of underserved communities and an honest understanding of the very real obstacles many individuals and families face. Both experiences continue to inform how I practice and how I show up for you in the therapy room. Outside of session, I'm usually deep in a telenovela, working through my Nintendo Switch 2 games, sweating through a [solidcore] class, or adding more books to an endless to-be-read reading list. I believe a full life outside the therapy room makes for a better therapist inside it.
Dr. Adina Chesir
You might be someone who generally has things together. You’re responsible, capable, and used to handling things on your own, but internally, things feel harder than it looks. Your mind may be constantly racing, second-guessing, or getting stuck on certain thoughts. Maybe anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, or stress is making it harder to enjoy school, relationships, or everyday life, or you're navigating a major transition and feeling overwhelmed behind the scenes. I work with students who want to better understand what’s going on internally and learn how to respond differently. Many of my clients are high-achieving and motivated but feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, or avoidance that are hard to break alone. Together, we'll work on changing how you relate to difficult thoughts and emotions so they have less power over your daily life. I also work with students coping with chronic illness, chronic pain, or physical symptoms that don’t have clear medical answers. I help clients understand the mind-body connection and how stress, anxiety, and the nervous system can influence physical symptoms while taking their experiences seriously. My approach is practical, collaborative, and warm. I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable sharing what’s on your mind without judgment while building evidence-based skills you can use in everyday life. My goal is to help you feel more confident, resilient, and better equipped to navigate life's challenges.

My goal is to help people understand why they feel and act the way they do, while helping them navigate this difficult world with compassion, kindness, and grace. As a mental health counselor, I support adults 18 and older as they move through experiences like anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. Meeting people where they are matters most to me, especially when they feel overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about what comes next. I walk alongside you as you deepen your understanding of yourself and learn gentler ways to work through emotions, and together we focus on building more fulfilling relationships and creating meaningful, lasting change. I believe in meeting each person with empathy, respect, and genuine curiosity, which helps me be a compassionate and collaborative partner in your healing journey. I also understand that reaching out for support can feel difficult – know that you don’t need to have everything figured out before beginning. I’m here to help you get started as you recognize your strengths, feel more confident navigating life's challenges, and create meaningful change. I believe meaningful change begins when people feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted for who they are. That’s why I ensure a warm, collaborative, and tailored approach to your care, in a nonjudgmental environment where you can show up as yourself, even when you’re unsure how to put what you’re feeling into words. Together, we draw on person-centered therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and solution-focused techniques to help you understand patterns, work through difficult emotions, and develop coping skills that feel realistic for your life. My style is compassionate, down-to-earth, and gently encouraging to meet you where you are, move at a pace that feels comfortable, and tailor our work to your individual needs, experiences, and goals. I grew up in Bangladesh and moved to the United States as a teenager. Learning to find my place in a new culture while staying connected to my Bengali roots gave me a personal understanding of how transitions, identity, language, and family expectations can shape the way we see ourselves and experience the world. I also came to understand how difficult it can be to talk about mental health when you have been taught to stay strong, keep personal struggles private, or put the needs of others before your own. These experiences helped lead me toward counseling and strengthened my commitment to providing care that is culturally responsive, compassionate, and free of judgment. I bring this warmth, openness, and genuine curiosity to each session so my patients feel seen as whole people, not defined by a diagnosis or by what they are going through. When I'm not in session, you'll find me dancing, exploring different parts of New York City, trying new restaurants and cafes, spending time in nature, traveling, or staying active. I also value quality time with friends and family and appreciate the simple moments that help me feel grounded and recharged.

Having moved countries multiple times, I deeply understand the stressors and challenges associated with settling into a new place, leaving behind friends, family, and pets. I can help you navigate these challenges and build meaningful connections and a fulfilling life. My primary focus is on adults who feel unfulfilled or trapped in a gilded cage and those who feel like they don't belong. When working with couples and individuals, my specialties include redistributing the mental load, fostering open communication, resolving conflicts, and reigniting intimacy. I tailor each session to meet the unique needs of my clients, always respecting their individuality and autonomy. I believe that even the most self-destructive behaviors originate from a place of protection. Let’s work together to reframe your relationships with yourself and others, transforming self-loathing and shame into understanding and kindness.

With seven years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I work with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults, helping people navigate life transitions, behavioral challenges, anxiety, depression, trauma, stress management, self-esteem concerns, attachment issues, and relationship difficulties. My goal is to meet you where you are. Whether you're carrying something heavy or simply searching for a clearer path forward, I'm committed to creating a warm, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, seen, supported, and understood. When you feel that kind of safety, meaningful growth becomes possible — and that's what we'll work toward together: healing, resilience, and the life you envision for yourself. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to support you as we work together toward your goals. In our sessions, you can expect a nonjudgmental space where you feel empowered to share your experiences, explore challenges, build on your strengths, and create meaningful growth and change. Because every person's journey is unique, I tailor treatment to your individual needs and goals. My warm, empathetic approach may draw on person-centered therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), alongside other evidence-based interventions, to provide care that is personalized, collaborative, and genuinely responsive to your experiences. My path to becoming a therapist began with a genuine desire to understand people and how our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors shape the lives we live. That curiosity led me toward direct work with families, children, adolescents, and young adults in crisis, experiences that deepened my commitment to trauma-informed, individualized care. Working alongside people in some of their most difficult moments strengthened my ability to show up with compassion, empathy, and understanding, in an environment where people feel genuinely supported. I love playing softball and catching baseball games whenever I can. When I'm not on the field or in the stands, I enjoy watching movies and TV, traveling, and spending time with the friends, family, and loved ones who matter most to me.
