In each step of your journey, I will encourage self-empowerment and positive growth. I will also work with you to identify the areas of your life that may no longer serve you. I use an integrated psychotherapy method grounded in existential, phenomenological, interpersonal, and gestalt approaches. What this means is that I will tailor your treatment to incorporate your worldview, values, and creativity, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model. I also incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to ensure that we manage acute suffering along the way. Originally from New York City, Rob earned his BA in Psychology and Sociology from Duquesne University and his Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh, focusing on Mental Health. With over eleven years of experience in inpatient, emergency, and outpatient settings, he brings a versatile and compassionate approach to therapy. Rob is passionate about supporting adults in the Black and African American community and works from a culturally sensitive, client-centered perspective. He primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and also offers EMDR for clients processing trauma. Rob believes that while we can’t always change our circumstances, we can shift our mindset—and in doing so, transform our lives. He has extensive experience helping clients navigate social injustices, identity challenges, family issues, and life transitions, providing a safe, non-judgmental space to process, heal, and grow.

I am an LPC with professional experience including over five years as a therapist and five years working in residential treatment settings, serving populations ranging from adolescents to the elderly. I operate from a cognitive-behavioral perspective, but also utilize positive psychology, systemic, and solution-focused theories. I have worked with a range of clients, including offenders, individuals struggling with substance abuse issues, families, couples, groups, and individual clients. Finally, I have a strong desire to provide counseling services to veterans and their families, given my family history of military service. My style is collaborative, intentional, and forward-focused. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other theoretical strategies to assist clients in establishing more effective patterns of thought and behavior. I use approaches that have been shown to be effective such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. As a professor at the University of Pittsburgh, I conducted research specific to the mental health of teenagers. I also have extensive experience working with LGBT individuals. Our first meeting would be a chance for me to really understand why you want therapy, for us to develop goals together (Note: My clients often begin developing goals by thinking about "If we are successful working together in therapy, how would you and your life be different?"), and for you to determine if therapy with me is a "good fit."
