Therapists for college students near Denver, CO
The intake process typically spans about four sessions, during which the emphasis is on assessing the compatibility between you and me. This initial stage is crucial as we establish a foundation for our therapeutic alliance and become acquainted with each other. A central element of my practice involves being fully present during our sessions and attuned to nonverbal cues. I listen to not only what you are saying but how you are feeling in the moment. I encourage you to observe and share your experiences during our discussions, fostering a sense of being present 'in the room' together. The therapy session serves as a secure space where we can explore your beliefs about yourself, how you make sense of the world, and your ways of connecting with other people. It provides an opportunity for you to practice assertiveness, express your emotions and needs, and challenge any assumptions about my perceptions and interactions with you.

Grounded, Compassionate and Practical Therapy I work with people navigating change, loss, grief, relationship changes, identity shifts, and the quiet moments when life no longer fits the way it used to. These are tender, often disorienting seasons, and you don’t have to move through them alone.
Satie is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Her specialties include trauma, depression, grief and loss, relationships, anxiety, self-esteem, life transitions, and development of self-awareness and self-connection. She takes a whole-person and compassion-rooted approach and often combines relational, body-based, emotion-focused, and mindfulness elements in working with clients. Satie approaches therapy as a collaborative relationship in which the process is tailored specifically to what each person needs over time. She believes that not everyone needs the same things from therapy, so it needs to adjust to each person. Therapy with her is relational and grounded and her therapeutic style is described as collaborative, empathetically challenging, and non-judgmental. Satie strives to make room in therapy for calm, humor, and joy in the process as well. Her ideal clients are individuals who understand that healing often requires change. With that in mind, she works to support clients in identifying and exploring personal response patterns, making meaning, gaining insight into emotions, shifting beliefs about self, and learning to better regulate or cope. Her hope is for individuals to connect with their needs and experience meaningful changes or insights in therapy that help them to feel more empowered, build a strong personal foundation of understanding, and reconnect with parts of themselves or experiences they've felt disconnected from. Whether you're needing a supportive place in your life to process stress and transition or wanting to explore deeper concerns, She will provide a calm, open space for you to do that.

Sessions help you create awareness of patterns that may be keeping you unhappy or stuck and identify alternative ways of thinking and acting so that change can happen. Natalie will work together will you to help you enhance the quality of your life and transform into a healthier and happier version of yourself. Sessions are collaborative and interactive. I work with young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, life adjustments, academic/career stress, body image, identity/self-esteem, LGBTQIA+ issues, and sleep issues. I am trained through an eclectic array of therapeutic modalities but often work through a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) lens. When working with sleep issues and insomnia, I am trained in CBT-I (CBT for insomnia). I prioritize meeting every client and family where they are in order to formulate an individualized treatment plan that works best for you. I enjoy genuinely connecting with my clients and their families by leaning on client strengths, values, and the authenticity of the therapeutic relationship. I find it beneficial to bring our personalities and humanness into the therapeutic process to facilitate a safe space for my clients. Life can be really messy and I'm honored to join you in that vulnerability. If it sounds like l might be a good fit for you, please reach out for a consultation! I'd be happy to connect with you.

I became a therapist because I genuinely want to provide a space for people to show up just as they are. You don’t need to feel a certain way, say anything specific, or meet any goal on my timeline. When we can sit back and accept ourselves as we are, we begin to hear things we couldn’t while trying to fix or fight parts of ourselves. I believe even the most challenging parts of us have protective purposes—they deserve curiosity, not shame. I work from a place of intuition and connection more than a strict model or method. I believe in being direct and encouraging you to take the risk of getting uncomfortable. At the same time, I’ll meet you with real empathy, patience, and compassion—plus a bit of humor or lightness when it feels right. Finding the right therapist is hard—especially one who truly sees your full, authentic self. If anything you’ve read resonates, I’d love to connect. Reach out for a free consultation and we can see if this is the space you’ve been looking for.

Hi, I’m Joanna Lester—founder of First Circle Therapy, a Colorado-based virtual practice. I specialize in working with college and grad students who are thoughtful, creative, and sensitive—but overwhelmed by the pressure to keep it all together. If you're juggling deadlines, relationships, family expectations, and big questions about who you're becoming, you might feel anxious, unmotivated, burned out, or just not yourself. You’re not alone—and therapy can be a space to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with what really matters to you. Our work can help you move through cycles of self-doubt, people-pleasing, or perfectionism and into a more grounded, self-led life. Whether you're processing trauma, navigating identity shifts, or learning to set healthier boundaries, I offer space to explore your inner world with clarity and care. In our sessions, we’ll use nervous system tools (to help your body shift out of fight-or-flight and feel more at ease) and parts work (to help the different sides of you—like the achiever, avoider, or inner critic—work together instead of against each other). You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin. I offer free consultations to see if we’re a fit, and I accept several major insurance plans to make therapy more accessible. Feel free to reach out—no pressure.

Let’s be real — the state of the world right now is heavy. As if maintaining good mental health weren’t hard enough already, right? I’m here to support with those hard day-to-day challenges, and to help you understand and shift how your past shapes the way you move through the world today. You have a story worth telling, and I want to hear it. My role is to walk beside you — offering perspective, practical tools, and space to heal. I specialize in working with trauma, grief, and anxiety, always guided by mindfulness, compassion, and a holistic perspective on healing. I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities including EMDR, Internal family systems (IFS or inner child work), Somatic Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I take a creative approach, weaving together tools from each of these modalities to shape a process that truly fits your needs. For more detail on each, check out the image above. Therapy should feel like a space where you’re truly supported. For some, that means sitting on a cozy couch in an office. For others, it might mean walking through a nearby park or connecting virtually from the comfort of home. You know what feels right for you — and I’d be honored to walk alongside you on that path.

I believe in the inherent worth of each person – a value that can be easier to understand than to apply to us in practice, but progress is best achieved when starting from a foundation of self-acceptance. That’s where I come in. I am a therapist specializing in emotional and somatic processing, parts work, and Mindfulness-based interventions for those with complex trauma, identity issues, depression and anxiety, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and more. These struggles may seem impossible to overcome, especially when compounded by the adversity of marginalization, identity struggles, or abuse. My mission is to help you feel whole by building skills, developing self-esteem and healthy attachment, and processing your burdens so they can be put down. This includes attuning to the body, calming the nervous system, finding meaning in life, and healing with the compassion and clarity of the true Self. I am here to be a witness, a companion in your journey, and a fellow human being who truly cares. My approach blends Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention skills with Internal Family Systems-based parts work and guided meditation to release trauma and foster self-compassion. In doing so, you learn to make sense of your experiences within the systems around you and foster healing through connection to self, others, and community. Sessions with me sound like: "What was that look there?" "That made me feel a wave of grief. Did you?" "Let’s pause, if that's okay ... Just breathe into the feeling." "All of your emotions are valid, but not all your thoughts are true." "I have some skills for this..." "Let’s talk to this part of you... What does it need? What protects you from?” Above all, treatment should be intentional and built on trust. If this resonates, let’s discuss what you’re looking for together. During my own therapy journey, I learned what it truly meant to “feel your feelings.” At first, the advice seemed absurd; I thought I felt too much. Over time, though, I learned that most of us are never taught how to process emotions or how to let them go. As a Latina and member of the LGBTQ+ and disabled communities, I have often felt misunderstood within therapeutic spaces, and this journey taught me the power of accessing and overcoming emotions holding us back. My work is shaped by these experiences, and I strive to offer inclusive care that centers around each person’s unique strengths and needs. When I am not providing therapy, I love to read fantasy books, write poetry, and make art. Dancing and playing sports in the park are also some of my favorite activities, especially with festive drinks and snacks, and some friends.
Do any of the following resonate with you? • You're grieving the loss of a loved one and friends and family think you should be "over it" by now. • You've lost a pet, relationship, job, your faith, or something else you held dear and no one seems to understand the depth of your feelings. • You've started questioning the faith of your youth and need a safe place to ask the questions you've been afraid to ask. • You've been rejected by your church, faith system, and/or your family because of your gender identity or sexual orientation and need a safe place to process and begin to heal those wounds. • You went through conversion therapy or a "pray the gay away" program and are now struggling in your faith, wondering if God can love you as you really are. • You're facing a life transition and need support navigating all of the mixed emotions that come with leaving one season and moving forward into another. • You're struggling in your relationship with a partner, friend, family member, or someone else, and need help setting boundaries and communicating your needs with kindness and respect (to yourself and others). I can help with all of the above issues and more. (Please see my website for more details: www.journeystepscounseling.com) I am dedicated to providing a safe, non-judgmental space where all of your emotions, thoughts, and questions can be expressed and explored. Using a variety of therapeutic approaches, I'll come alongside you and tailor our sessions to your unique needs. I offer in-person sessions in Denver on Saturdays and online appointments Wednesday through Friday. Please contact me and we can set up a free 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit.
