Hello! My name is Abigayle Bennett, but you can call me Abi. I am in my second year of my Master’s of Social Work at Binghamton University and hold an Associate’s in Human Services and a Bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Education. I have been working in children’s and family services for the majority of my career, and hope to eventually open a Child and Family Development Center and offer an inclusive space for families to seek tools and resources to improve their family’s mental well-being. I specialize in areas such as anxiety, mood disorders, parenting and family issues, relationships, self-esteem, self-harm, lgbtq+ youth, and domestic/sexual abuse. I strive to create a laid-back, open, and approachable environment in our sessions. I understand that starting therapy can be daunting, but I aim to make our therapeutic relationship as comfortable and supportive as possible. My goal is to be someone you feel at ease talking to so that you can freely share and explore your thoughts and feelings. I know how intimidating it can be to bare your soul to a stranger, so I want to work together to build a strong therapeutic relationship so we can tackle your needs as a team. I firmly believe that mental health has to start from a sort of ground-up perspective. In order to control your feelings, emotions, and reactions, you have to understand them and be able to respond to them using tools that meet you where you’re at. I practice primarily using CBT, DBT, mindfulness, attachment theory, and family systems theory. In our sessions, we will use an eclectic mix of various therapeutic frameworks to best meet your needs. In session, this may look like guided meditations, processing past traumas, exploring family dynamics, and cognitive reprogramming techniques. By utilizing a mix of modalities, we can work together to find ways to best respond to the difficulties and struggles you may be facing, and hopefully overall improve your quality of life.
I specialize in helping people cope with the emotional ups and downs of life transitions, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship endings, and academic and career stress. I can help you find your way back to feeling whole again and learn to treat yourself with self-compassion. I have an extensive background in providing counseling for undergraduate and graduate students, including medical students and residents. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for people to be heard and seen and find hope for the future. I work from a strengths based, client centered and trauma-informed approach, and work with people in a collaborative and authentic way. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and relational therapy.
It's not your fault. College is demanding & society rewards overworking. It can feel impossible to slow down & practice self-care when you're overwhelmed & nothing you do feels like it's enough. You deserve better. Let's work together to help you heal, unlearn society's b.s. rules, re-calibrate your nervous system so you can step into your power to create and enjoy your life!
ADHD is more than just "having difficulty focusing," and no, not "everyone has a little bit of ADHD" as many people claim nowadays. The impact of ADHD is pervasive and can keep you from reaching your goals, connecting with others, maintaining a routine despite knowing that it would be helpful, and constantly "masking" for fear that you will not be accepted as you are. Life administrative tasks feel daunting and get postponed repeatedly, and the negative self-talk that ensues as a result takes a further toll and increases avoidance. I can help you understand the brain science of ADHD, incorporate aspects of mindfulness, somatic work, and other modalities to overcome these challenges, and regain your mental energy. You'll learn to work with your neurodivergence, NOT against it. I work from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, lens and am mindful about how culture, immigration journeys and systemic racism play a role in how someone compensates for their ADHD.

Sometimes we struggle with our mental health when we're children, adolescents, or even up to our adulthood. By taking the next step in your mental health journey we can work as a team to break generational curses, help you build your confidence, express your emotions, build healthy boundaries, healthier ways to cope, communicate skills, and problem solve to create the best version of you. If you are someone whom is having difficulty with life transitions, depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship issues, and self esteem concerns I will work with you to build effective tools for managing those day to day life stressors. While also helping you heal from past experiences in order to create a more fulfilling life you can be empowered by. Welcome to Samadhi Mental Health Counseling. In our work together, I will use the therapeutic relationship to help expand your awareness, move toward acceptance and then deciding on an appropriate action. My role is to provide safety, security and honesty for you to use and explore what is most important in your life. Creating a healthy and balanced life where you encounter peace on a daily basis does not come without tremendous effort, insight, and a network of people who support your goals. As part of this balanced life, I routinely implement mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) as a way to relate to your inner world in a more authentic way. Another option to help process experiences I implement is eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
